This includes celebrations, some answers to prayer, and yes, "annoucements." We cast them as community needs or opportunities rather than as reminders. We have about four people who are good at keeping it snappy, and we rotate the responsibility. Your insight makes me more doubtful that this can be done. However, I have an inkling that some actions can communicate to everyone (the crucifixion, for example), and action is a form of communication. Second, I think the day may be coming when it will be impossible to sell content. Communicators can only sell their audience (through advertising) or themselves (via speaking fees, salary, etc.). A sales agent who is part diagnostician makes for a great sale. A generous return/exchange policy makes for a loyal customer. I keep wondering how to apply these principles to the church. Do I anticipate the needs of the people who walk into our church? Or do I/we try to shove everyone toward our special of the day? This is harder to do than it looks.
