Is This Mike On? : This dad is under official review

Parenting does have a few of those "nice" moments -- if only there were more. They make the crappy days somewhat more tolerable.

The Daily Blarg : I\'m Worth It-Part 2 And Why the Maire Claire Article Made Me Grateful

Wow! I hadn't read the "article" until you pointed it out to me. I'm frustrated on so many levels I can't even speak. I would post a comment, but I honestly don't think it deserves of my time and effort. As a mother of a child who just lost 129.6 pounds (and counting), I'm not only angry, but hurt. BUT, I'm also GRATEFUL that I have friends (and online friends) who "get it." Good luck in your efforts because you ARE worth it! We're all rooting for you! My recent post Dads Are Special

The Daily Blarg : You Really Have To Watch Out for Eddie Murphy

That's funny! What a great kid! Charlotte & Emily -- that's when your writing and telephoning skills come in handy. When my kids were growing up, the members of the school board always knew exactly who I was -- and my children knew me as Mom, with the poison pen. School districts need to know that certain behavior is NOT acceptable! I got a teacher fired once, and there is a school bus driver who only kept her job after a profuse apology to me. My recent post Dads Are Special

Hang in there. As my Dad used to say, "Someday they'll be a blessing to you." I'm still waiting . . . . No, really, they will. They'll figure out how smart you are about the time they've driven you to drink.

Is This Mike On? : Confessions of a weird Mormon (revisited)

Yes, it does sting a little; but it also makes us strong. There's a story about an ancestor of mine who shielded his wife's body with his own while she was giving childbirth because rocks were being pelted through the windows of their home. The minute the baby was born, he left the house and took of running so the mob would run after him and leave his wife and baby alone. He ran miles before he escaped the mob. That's just ONE story from my ancestors. And the result? Descendents who take the sting with gratitude, knowing in their hearts how this will all turn out in the end. Great post, Mike.

Is This Mike On? : The trouble with Walt

I've had those nights. I remember being tired one night and wanting to cancel an appointment with a new sister, but drug myself out of the house instead. The sister turned out to be a little old deaf lady with major health issues who was living in a small bedroom in her sister's house. Her sister told us that she rarely came out of the bedroom. Her little dog never left her side, and was a great comfort to her. She spent her whole life reading books, petting her dog, and watching several varieties of humming birds feed outside her window. Yes, she was the important thing that night -- and I was no longer tired when we left.
