Problem with Spirit is that it cannot activate, only jailbreak. On my 3G 3.1.3, I have used:

-Redsnow to jailbreak and activate.
-Ultrasn0w to unlock.

and it works... There was a note on the4.0 pwnage release though, that this setup might fail on reboot, but so far no problems...

Lookup a Redsnow tutorial from iClarified (google it) and find a DFU video on youtube...

Note. You may have to change your computer settings to show file extensions to be able to rename the restore file from .zip to .ipsw :-)

How far did you get with Redsnow???

Did you download the .ipsw file?
Did you rename it from .zip to .ipsw?
Did you manage to get the phone into DFU mode?

Jailbreak and activate with Redsnow, which will allow you to use your iPhone as an iPod touch. You wont be able to unlock (use another carrier/simcard) until the next unlock become available. I´m waiting for the unlock as well and hopefully it will be within the next week, when the iPhone OS 4 comes out :-)

Just a reminder from a newbee. Stay away from unlock sites like serviceok. Nothing but a waste of your money. They provide Jailbreak for 3.1.3 / 05.12.01 but no unlock... no matter what they tell you.....
