By no stretch of the imagination were they helpless victims being pushed around by others. Quite the opposite. Democracies are designed to reflect the will and interests of the MAJORITY. Yes, minorities have the right not to be persecuted and to the protection of the law the same as any citizen. However, the glaring double standards which are applied to minorities when it comes to "equality" is ludicrous as the current BNP membership criteria issue demonstrates.
