there are too many laid off attorneys for you to really be worried that you're blacklisted unless you did something outrageous...even then, it's still questionable. Temp agencies, on the other hand, enjoy blacklisting people (I've blacklisted myself with Update Legal and it was fun doing it)

that's true, that's why junior monkeys should milk BigLaw as much as they can, run up their expense account, sleep with summer associates, and raid the supplies closet. Got to get your giggles in some how if you're not actually getting anything substantive while you're sitting in a little room and trying to look busy even though you're really just gchatting, hanging out on facebook, and reading the super duper informative Law Shucks blog and its super duper entertaining Laid Off Diary.

Well, sure, if you don't produce, you should get the boot... but if you do produce, you should at least have some job security--where in BigLaw you don't. Also, BigLaw work distribution should ensure that it's at least fair to all associates as this would cut down on backstabbing and unproductive competition. yes, there are plenty of TTTs that still have BigLaw jobs, so? that doesn't mean that there are positions open or that firms are hiring. There are also plenty of Ivy kids or kids with better marks than me (and worse than me) who have been laid off (and were at more prestigious BigLaw firms).

I am so amazed that people are so amazed that lawyers are getting laid off. Are people stupid? Do they not understand if businesses aren't doing any business, then there is no use for business/corporate attorneys? People also glaze over when I tell them I'm a corporate attorney. They still think I litigate but about corporations. How do these people still have jobs and I don't? Someone just posted on my blog that they didn't understand how I couldn't find a job having gone to a top law school and having been on law review. I don't know, because there are 10k unemployed BigLaw attorneys who also went to a top law school and who were also on law review....
