Sure wish I could share this, but I know my friends, and with the first (MAYBE second) foul word, they would navigate away from the site altogether. They'd never read it. And all because of the filthy language used. Happens a lot. I'm not passing judgement, I'm just saying that's what would happen. Frustrating!

Big Government : Unions Hire Non-union Picketers?

"Hire some of these folks...to infiltrate and document the union picketing process. Give them hidden cameras and such. Make them part of the solution." Excellent Idea! Andrew B. can help with that, he sure did a great job on ACORN!

"A shrewd, .... curmudgeon who is bent on annihilating every moronic, wasteful economy killing government program enacted in the last 30 years. A snorting beast who will restore the military to pre-Carter rules of engagement and go after the enemy without apologies or arse kissing. A merciless dragon who will not reach across the aisle, but burn it to a crisp. A Commie destroyer with red white and blue blood and a Johnson the size of Florida." In other word, another Chris Christie! As Stephen Kruiser on PJTV has said, "I want him to be the President, I want him to be the Pope,.... [and just about everything else!]" MAN!, I sure do wish he was running for President! He's been doing a FABULOUS job in New Jersey, and those folks aren't so easy to deal with!

Big Government : Sunday Open Thread: Mockingbird Edition

"but I think Gregory Peck was wrong for the role of Atticus. His accent is pretty bad. It is the typical Hollywood Southern accent. A real Southerner can spot it in a minute. The children, though, were fabulous." It doesn't even take a real Southerner to discern a fake accent. If one has done any traveling at all, and really LISTENS to people with their entire attention, listening for ALL the information given -- instead of listening superficially to learn only what they want to know, and dismissing anything they consider superfluous -- then one can easily discern the differences. I have often been amused, sometimes irritated, by the Hollywood Southern accents ("Oklahoma" is a definite case in point), and I am a northern Missouri girl who speaks w/what my Texas friend calls a "radio voice"(i.e. no discernible accent). I do not agree that Gregory Peck was wrong for the movie, however. His acting was flawless. He simply, as an actor, did not do the research necessary to know and be able to speak w/the correct accent. The children's accents, I suspect, were authentic because they were natural to those particular children (at least Boo).

Big Government : Defeat Socialism: Save America From the Obama-Pelosi Regime…Draft Sarah Palin for RNC Chair

You are exactly right! It's been the party going after the liberals and moderates that has caused it to lose such an enormous part of its conservative base, which is the reason it is now floundering. The whole IDEA of two parties is their opposing views. If they are no longer in opposition, it leaves an entire ideology (i.e. millions of people) totally unrepresented. And I believe it has now come to the point where it is the actual MAJORITY that is unrepresented. You are right also, in regard to jumping on the Tea Party Wagon. I read comments on so many sites saying how they can't support so and so because of one particular point, but that is exactly what will divide us, and in so doing, leave us once again unrepresented. We have to COME TOGETHER, which may mean some compromise with each other, but that certainly beats compromising with the liberals!

We were told that the I.R.S. would enforce compliance. If there is some way for them to transfer the penalty into our fed. income tax file, then they will usurp the authority to penalize us through the usual (i.e. treacherous) I.R.S. venues.

You are absolutely right! That was a very scary time. I was young, but I remember the fear. They became so violent with no provocation. Also, without exception, all of the folks with whom I am acquainted both online and off, that have emigrated from socialist countries (including some escapees from pre-fall E. Germany and the U.S.S.R.) have been remarking over the similarities, and expressing concern regarding the direction this administration is taking our country.

In "My Fair Lady", Eliza tells Mrs. Higgins, "Indeed, I should never have learned [how to behave like a lady], were it not for Colonel Pickering...I know I shall always be a lady to him because he always treats me as a lady, and always will." Colonel Pickering was a father-figure to her. My mother told me the practical things, modesty and discretion, etc., but it was my dad who really taught me how to be a lady because he always treated me as a lady. He never SAID anything about it, he was just there, treating me with the deference that any gentleman affords a lady. All my friends got the same "Mama told me" lessons I got, but most did not have the gentleman father that I did. Yet, as a young woman in the 70's and 80's, I was nearly always treated by my dates as my dad treated me. There will always be jerks out there, but only a father can insill the confidence, grace and modesty in a daughter's sense of self, Whether consciously or not, a man picks up on that, and it carries over into his treatment of her. It also heightened my respect for my father, which I never outgrew. FYI: It works the other way around as well. My sons are often complimented by the mothers of their buddies and girlfriends on the way they treat women. I did very little actual teaching in that area. I just behaved as a lady, and they knew I expected them to behave as gentleman. Now, as young adult men, they never let me carry groceries, perform some little repair or reach high places if they are there to do it for me. They always open doors for me, stepping back to allow me to go ahead of them - not in subservience, but out of a deep respect that they know is returned to them, with love.

When she finds herself tempted, what will stick in her mind: a lecture? Or a memorable evening with her supportive and protective father? If this sort of thing had been around in my day, I would treasure that memory with all my heart - especially now that my father is gone.
