While we're getting personal, in the 80's, I remember anti-Thatcher Labour placards saying "Ditch The Bitch".

Even female Labour MP's were upset by that.

For that matter, I've never seen any blue rinses at a Conservative gathering.

I see the Guardian Media Groups offshore activities don't get much of a mention.

"I miss going to the Liberal Democrat conference".

For a moment I thought he meant "I blinked and missed the Liberal Democrat conference".!

Well, people aren't really encouraged to save these days, thanks to a lethal combination of "you can have it now" media marketing and pathetically low interest rates.

I go to Netherlands/Belgium on business now & then. Can't say I've experienced any issues.

I firmly believe that despite all the Brexit "noise", most people want to get on with their lives and make the best of things. The Guardian and Financial Times would have people believe otherwise - then again, I wouldn't read those papers if they were given away free.

I know an anaesthetist working in a Northern hospital. He's quite contemptuous of nurses needing to have degrees. He says you create a race of "wannabe doctors" and the profession loses focus. In his view, the entry requirement does nothing to help the NHS.
Personally, I don't know enough to agree or disagree with those assertions, but being on the inside, at least his views are worth notice.

You seem to be (perhaps willfully) missing my points and those of most of the other posters here.
By all means have equal opportunities, just let's not pick people because of some preconceived notion that "we need more (insert minority of choice) in the armed forces" - or indeed, any other walk of life - and no, I don't "fear" anything.

Nobody's going on about "inferiority" - people are upset about playing identity politics with the defence of the realm, and pandering to a tick box culture.
We want the best people for our Armed Forces - doesn't matter whether they're blue & green stripes. The author of this article evidently has other priorities.

Easy to see why this fellow kept his seat in the GE debacle - seems like he pinched his Labour opponents' policies!
