My first thought is that using deception was probably the only way he could get medical services. Perhaps the newly passed legislation would have helped him get medical help before he had to debase himself and become the butt of jokes from Christian America.

Since the economy is in fact slowly recovering from the Bush Recession and more jobs are created and we join the "first world" in health care I find it difficult to see where Obama wants to ruin the economy. The hatred is sad and certainly not healthy for the haters.

WOW! What a great project!! In a (short) conversation I had with President Obama in Elkader during the campaign we discussed vehicle to grid (and vice versa) and how critically important a smart grid with this exact capability will be in America's future. This project will allow Iowa students (K-12, CC, University, and beyond) to see and experience this wonderful replacement for the oil and food (ethanol) that we currently use for personal transportation.

I realize this is way too late in the thread, but for those who doubt human influence in global warming: Visualize the number of cars and trucks on the 47,000 miles of our interstate highway system right now and the number of cars and trucks in our cities; New York, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, etc. Add to that the rest of the world and the thousands of power plants and factories, etc. The real wonder is that our 6 mile deep atmosphere has been able to handle us as well as it has.

The Soviet Union collapse was primarily caused: 1) by the fact that a controlled economy cannot succeed for long because of human greed, and 2) the economic burden of their war in Afghanistan. I note that the BlazinHawk did not bring up the wars that W. started (or, more correctly, Chenny started). These, more than any other factor, are why we have the current huge deficits. Will our fights in Iraq and Afghanistan be written about in history books as one of the main reasons that China became the worlds greatest economic power in a few years?

Annie, your point is a good one. The USA has long supplied weapons and "advisors" to some of the most brutal governments on Earth. In the mideast, not only did we supply Saddam Hussein during the Iraq / Iran war, but we also supplied what became the Taliban in Afghanistan during the Soviet Union's attempt to control the country. Many American servicemen and women were killed with weapons made in the USA. The hate mongers of the far right call this kind of opinion blame-America-first. I call it the highest form of patriotism. It should be the duty of all citizens to criticize their government (as if the Rush Limbaugh / Glenn Beck group don't).

Living in the country, being neighborly is somewhat different than living in town but here is one example: 18 years ago I was plowing out my lane with my 1953 IH 560 tractor. It was the first winter I ever used a bucket on a tractor and after getting stuck on a hill near the gravel road that connects to our lane I sat helplessly wondering what to do next. Shortly a young man with a h*ll raiser reputation drives by in his pickup. He stops, I explain, he gets up on the tractor and uses the bucket as a lever to get it unstuck. Several other winter episodes come to mind. Iowans are still neighborly.

Incredible!! I offer a complement to a Republican and Gary E rubs my nose in it. The hatred (and fear) from the right can not be satisfied. The use of "BO" as a derisive name for our President is also disgusting. But hey, keep it up, Gary, and all you other hate mongers, the longer you keep spitting all over yourselves, the longer the Democrats stay in power. Rational voters will not respond to such negative sentiment.

Here is the Grassley quote that you are referring to: "There is some fear because in the House bill, there is counseling for end-of-life, and from that standpoint, you have every right to fear. You shouldn't have counseling at the end of life. You ought to have counseling 20 years before you're going to die. You ought to plan these things out. And I don't have any problem with things like living wills. But they ought to be done within the family. We should not have a government program that determines if you're going to pull the plug on grandma." I can see where you could interpret that as extreme but I would not put it anywhere near as harmful as what Rush, Glen , Sarah, Ann and the rest of the blind hate crowd says.
