This just in..... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/02/cafardos-la...
\\\"With all of their additions this offseason, the Twins\\\' payroll will jump from $65M to about $96M as they move into Target Field this year.

The Twins will have a larger payroll than the Dodgers.\\\"

But then again teams with new stadiums do this all the time.

Also, http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/02/four-clubs-... are we getting Hisanori Takahashi??? The Gianst already feel like they are out of it, leaving the Dodgers, Mets, and Red Sox. I say we get him because of our history with Japanese players and knowing how to handle them as well as the huge Asian population in LA.

He signed with us so that he could stay on SoCal really. And probably because we were the only team to make him an offer! Argh.

Rory, I have to COMPLETELY disagree with you and all of the other people that are crying about our owner's balls being in a vice with the divorce proceedings! THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR PAYROLL.

Let me say it again so that everybody is clear...

THE DIVORCE HAS NO IMPACT ON OUR PAYROLL!

I do have a fantastic inside tip from a trusted source on what is exactly effecting our payroll. THE CRAPPY ECONOMY AND CRAPPY FREE AGENT MARKET THIS WINTER! Oh, and that trusted inside source is none other than.... my common sense.

OK, so I may be proven wrong someday. When Frank writes his memoirs or some other revelation. But I doubt it.

It's really common sense. Legally there is no reason whatsoever that our payroll should be effected by the divorce proceedings right now. In fact, if Frank was really playing hardball and desperate he'd be spending like a crazy man.

The other thing is that Blake is not a power 3B, but we do not need that. I am happy we have a consistent 3B that can show some veteran leadership in our young and fun clubhouse. Again, WE DON'T NEED A POWER 3B because we have great hitting at the other positions. This team will hit well, I predict better than last year. Manny is playing for next year's contract and all our young guys should improve.

Our pitching will be fine too. I am confident in Padilla and Kuroda. Clayton and Chad are a given for me. That is totally enough pitching if we have the great offense that we should this year. I do feel that a mid season acquisition or two will be needed for the post season though.

I still believe that DeWitt will compete for the job in Spring and that it is nobody\\\'s job at the moment. If Belliard outplays him in Spring then he\\\'ll start, and the same goes for DeWitt. I like a little competition and I know that DeWitt has been working is arse off all off season. He has played and participated in absolutely EVERY single thing that he can. Dominican Winter ball, Dodgers mini-camp, etc. He is definitely trying to take advantage of the opportunity.

That being said I think that if he cannot pull it together this season, in this lineup, then we just never will and that season he had in \\\'08 was a fluke.

Just in, Jon Garland signs with the Padres.

http://bit.ly/9rCWeI
What a drag, the lowly Padres can afford Garland but we can\\\'t??? It\\\'s pretty obvious that he wanted to stay in LA/SoCal as he\\\'s a native. At least the Giants didn\\\'t get him!

Dodgers just signed Belliard to a one year deal reported to be $825k plus about $250k in incentives. Confirmed via Twitter by both Dylan Hernandez and Ken Gurnick!

That gives us plenty of depth in the infield with Carrol there as well.

I like the pickup, not the price. I was hoping for something in the 3-4 million range with many incentives built in to keep him honest. And the $1mil signing bonus was BS.

I guess we will have to hope that the one year deal is enough to keep him motivated. The idea of a huge contract possibility next year if he does good this year will be his only real incentive.

I do like his numbers over the past 8-9 years though. A winning record. It shows that he is truly a winner when he takes the mound. I was also impressed with his stuff last season. Really good movement. Plus the ice water that runs through his veins.

Let\\\'s also just say that I would not want to run into Padilla, Belisario, and/or Broxton on a dark street!!!

Well, there it goes, 3-run bomb! Bills just looks VERY tired! Leaving balls up all inning. Torre should have pulled him after that side arm crap he pulled this inning. If that doesn't tell you that the kid's tired I don't know what will. He has NEVER done that before.
Hey guys, Mark knows exactly what he's doing. There are now like 100 comments or something ridiculous on this post. Haze, thanks for the segway man, keep teeing them up and we'll keep hittin'em out. :-) Its funny how in all media, even in our sacred little slice of Dodger heaven, the only stuff that really gets attention is drama, negativity, pain, and suffering. Its the reason that the mainstream media is always looking for a "drama" angle on this Dodgers team. First it was Manny not in camp, then it was (still is a bit) that we need better pitching, then it was Manny's suspension and how it would crush this team and its chemistry, then it was Torre wearing out our bullpen, now it will be Manny again and roids, etc... I'll bet if we win it this year it will be all about us being "cheaters" and our title as not legit because Manny contributed! Thank God we have played as well as we have without that clown pants!

Well Blue, you are right about one thing.... Joe Morgan still "hates" the Dodgers but can only let on to that in indirect ways so as to maintain the neutrality needed in his profession. He hates the Dodgers still like Lasorda (and I) hate the Giants still.

Maddux wants to relax for at least one season and enjoy retirement. But I have a feeling he will be back in baseball in some form next year. And the mound was shortened because of Bob Gibson and Denny McLain's 30 win season in 1968 mostly, although Koufax was also part of the reason I'm sure. On December 3, 1968, the Baseball Rules Committee voted to lower the height of the pitching mound from fifteen to ten inches and to require that all pitching mounds be sloped gradually so that pitchers will not appear to be firing from a steep cliff to the batter below. The pitcher has more leverage on a higher mound while the greater angle produced from the higher mound makes it more difficult to hit the ball squarely. According to physicists, the gear effect states that when comparing a smaller arc and a wider arc, the wider arc generates more velocity from the same force, which means that throwing off a higher mound results in greater velocity.

LADodgerTalk.com - THE Dodgers Blog! : Russ Martin is Officially Back!

Hey Mark, check the papers..... we ARE the class of the league! Getting Manny back will not change that fact. Baseball is a TEAM sport and so fart our team is meshing very well teogether and dominating the league, without our best hitter and our #2 starter (Kuroda) for most of the season so far. Not many teams could have accomplished that. So I hate to hear all of this talk about, if we package some starters and some prospects we can get player X or pitcher Z. We have THE BEST RECORD IN ALL OF BASEBALL. We may not need anyone, and if we do it will be a pitcher, either a bullpen guy or a starter (barring any unforeseen injuries to our current roster). There are plenty of players that I am upset we lost, it doesn't mean I obsess about getting them back. Beltre was a clown while he was with us and his last season with us was a crazy fluke. DRomo is right, we gave him an outstanding offer, raised him from our system since he was in diapers, and stuck with him when he sucked big time. And we got completely disrespected by that clown. He wanted nothing to do with us. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say. And FEAR THE BEARD, THE FOUNDATION. Happy Father's Day to all!
