/Film : Star Trek - Film Review

Well, I guess they did exactly what they told everybody they weren't going to do: reboot Star Trek. What remains to be seen is if it will be worth it. This review isn't exactly encouraging.

/Film : Star Trek Clip #1: Shot of Love

He's a bit of a technophobe. One of his big beefs was his fear of the transporter or "having my atoms scattered across the universe" as he put it. I was actually pleasantly surprised with Urban's portrayal. He channels the original actor, Deforest Kelly, quite well.

/Film : Michael Bay Thinks 3D \"Might Be a Gimmick\"

Props to him for being old school. He's probably right in waiting to see Avatar before passing any final judgement. Right now we're just seeing 3D in kid's films and horror flicks. If they want it to be something that becomes mainstream it's going to need to garner mainstream success with a "normal" film. Sci fi seems to be the perfect choice for such a platform, so we'll see how Jim Cameron does.

Agreed. If anything this is going to increase buzz for the flick. That being said, it's not exactly on the caliber of some of those other films.

/Film : Who Changed the Subtitles For The Let The Right One In DVD Release?

I was a split second away from buying this the other day and now I'm glad I didn't. The translated dialogue from the theater version is part of what makes the film for English-speaking audience members. And if the changes are as drastic as it appears to be in these screen captures, I won't be buying until they go back to the original subtitles.

/Film : Battlestar Galactica Series Finale - What Did You Think?

I feel a lot like I did when I watched the TNG and DS9 finales. Battlestar was a good friend to have over the last six years and I'm sorry to see it go, but I'm glad it was ended on the storytellers' terms and not a networks. I know there's a core group that appreciates the show, but I think before long it will be something of a cult classic that can earn a broader appeal.

For some reason the Academy feels they *need* to represent *all* of the so called "deeper" flicks made throughout the year whether they're better than some of the big blockbusters or not. I'm not mad that TDK got snubbed because it was a financially successful film, but because it was a *good* film.

/Film : Does Hollywood Need a New Model For Storytelling?

Agreed. I think viral marketing is a boon to gathering buzz for any given project, but I don't think it should take the front seat and replace you're standard narrative. People may have ADD but they're also lazy and they won't always want to go to six different places to get one single good story told.

/Film : TV Review: Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Premiere - What Did You Think?

I'm in agreement with everything that's been said. Honestly, I think I'm not going to devote too much brain power into trying to figure out the puzzle and just enjoy the ride while it's still running. Also, I thought the "FRAK EARTH" on the wall was a funny homage (intentional or not) to "LOVE MANKIND" from Star Trek TOS' "The Naked Time".
I got into Jericho after it was canceled the first time but watched the second season as it aired. I thought the second season started to gt a little gimmicky toward the end but all in all I whtought it was still a show worth watching. If these guys can come up with a compelling story worthy of a theatrical or even direct-to-dvd release to help tie up more of the show's loose ends, I'd line up to see it.

I'm not that happy about the adaptation being in the hands of someone like Roland Emmerich. Having read Foundation, I would much prefer it be in the hands of a much more capable sci fi director such as Ridley Scott. That being said, it might not be a total loss. Emmerich does have a decent visual eye, his issues generally lie in story and plot development. If a solid screenwriter gets picked to adapt the story, it could turn out to be okay. All in all I'll be keeping an eye on the project.
