Big Hollywood : 'The Lorax' Review: Eco-Hypocrisy Leavened By Whimsical Creatures

When I read the The Lorax, all I could think was "can the message get any more ham handed"? Talk about beating you over the head with a message stick! The same goes true for The Butter Battle Book. Where was the Seuss of Yertle the Turtle? Now there was a message with charm and subtlety. I will not be buying this for my grandchildren, but I will introduce them to the best Seuss ever - The 500 Hats of Bartholemew Cubbins.

Big Hollywood : In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

I feel like I was punched in the gut and then dropped off a cliff. Of all the times.....we need people like Andrew to counter The Won and his cheerleaders. May he rest in peace and may we continue to fight for the principles he held.

I can't help but think Jewish laws are on the chopping block next. The city of San Francisco tried to ban circumcision, but failed. I'll bet they keep trying.

Indeed he would. I don't know if the College of Cardinals have the vision to go out of Europe to elect the next pope, but Timothy Dolan would certainly be a ground breaking choice.

Big Hollywood : Something Gays & Muslims Need Never Fear: CBS, Grammys Mock Catholic Church

My sister works for a nice gay gay who works hard and lets off steam by going out with his partner while the two of them hone their sharpshooter skills. They are good guys who wouldn't be caught dead at a Pride event. They are what they are and they can have my back any day.

Big Government : Monday Open Thread: Elizabeth Edition

I won't thumbs down. I admire Elizabeth very much. She has slogged through what must be a terribly difficult job for a basically shy person. And think of the boring twits she has to meet day after day. If she takes after her mother, and I think she does, she may still be on the job when she's 100.

Big Hollywood : Rapper M.I.A. Flips 100 Million Americans the Bird During Super Bowl Halftime Show

Meh. As far as I'm concerned, the best half time shows were those put on by U2 and Tom Petty (and maybe Prince). The rest were pretty well forgettable. How about shocking the edgy and hip and having George Strait on next year?

Well, if you liked Andy in Pray for the Wildcats, check him out in the movie A Face in the Crowd. He's a first class sleaze in that one and plays the role wonderfully.
Big Government : Why Geezers Are Occupy Wall Street's True Enemy

Amen. This geezer is starting my 32nd year working. I've obeyed the law, only got one speeding ticket in my life. I've voted in every election since I was 18, and I've paid a hellofalotta taxes. I didn't start in a cushy job and I've eaten a lot of peanut butter and crackers. So go away OWS and pay some dues. Then you can complain.

Amen. Claude Rains accomplished the impossible feat of making me sympathize with a Nazi. He did love Alicia, and in the end was a pitiable character - betrayed by Alicia and by his fellow compatriots. This is my own favorite Hitchcock movie as well.

Big Journalism : Wednesday Crib Sheet: Alabama Weatherman Takes Diane Sawyer To Task Over Tornado Warning Flub

Well, much as I hate to say it, Diane Sawyer was born and raised in Kentucky. However, she has left her roots far behind and now is as east coast elite as the worst of them. That oh-so-concerned tone of voice she uses grates on my last nerve.

Big Hollywood : 'Heavenly Creatures' Blu-ray Review: Still Director Peter Jackson's Greatest Film

Pauline Parker was redeemed as well. She moved to England and spent a number of years running a riding school. She has expressed deep remorse for the murder and now lived a quiet life in Scotland. I am a BIG fan of Anne Perry's books - they are excellent historical mysteries.

Breitbart.tv : Michael Moore: US Founded On Genocide And Slavery

Amen. There were many of the oh so noble American Indian Tribes that practiced slavery and it could be horribly brutal. At potlatches, it was the custom to show your wealth by casually killing one of your slaves, and lets not forget about the huge number of human sacrifices practiced by the Aztec. But to Mikey and his ilk, ONLY Americans are at fault and all others get a pass.

Don't write off Lombard until you see her in Nothing Sacred. It's recently been restored to its full technicolor and it's one of the funniest movies ever. It really sticks it to the press (one reason I love it so much), but the real standouts are Lombard and Frederic March.
