KOMO - Seattle, WA : Feelings mixed as Black Friday turns into Black Thursday | News | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Bre

a lot of their issues surround the workers having to leave early from family functions. My niece has to be at toys r us by 6pm to work till 2, then off for 8 hours, then back again for 8....this article doesn't really address that, it hits more of the shopper angle. She's looking forward to the paychecks, as a 19 year old student, but the fact that she has to leave immediately after dinner is the part that sucks.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Obscure hospital rule leaves Medicare patients stuck with bill | Local & Regional | Seattle News, We

I wondered about that as well. The financial waiver per medicare is specific to the services received, and if the waiver is not complete or correct, the provider has to write-it off. Based on the above story as well, I'm thinking that she may have had Part A only...which if that was the case, the hospital should have figured that out right away to help themselves. Makes me frustrated, because it's not that hard to verify and check. Argh!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Perp walks ordinary in U.S., an outrage in France | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | K

France wants to get upset about this? Saying this policy is outrageous? really? How about the fact that France has released the name of the victim, which in the US is against journalistic standards? It's goes both ways I guess...but that's how we do things here, and there every victim is exposed to being called a liar or worse...and obviously they didn't single him out with this process. Everyone needs to simmer down there.

Single Dad Laughing : 55 on the Freeway

I enjoy my time on my commute. I have about a 30-45 minute drive time depending on traffic. My coworkers and some of my family cannot understand this and why we haven't moved in the last 4 years since i started working there. My opinion is that this is my "me time" With my two kidlets, age 5 and 4, this is my time to listen to my music, my audio books, or just enjoy the beautiful area I live in. Taking the time to slow down, and having that time really helps me keep my sanity. ;-) so yes, i understand the appeal of bopping along in the right lane.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Japan finds more types of radiation-tainted food | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KO

There's currently no food being shipped from Japan. The goods from that area were already here/on their way, were all packaged before the earthquake. The FDA has already said that one Japan starts shipping again, they will be very stringent on the testing of those products... and as a side note, our ports already have radiation detectors for every container that is moved. so there would be an alarm/concern raised if that happens.

You might want to comprehend some of the story as well. This has nothing do with him being a hip-hop artist, it has everything to do with the unrest in Haiti and the corruption with their government, especially since the catastrophic earthquake they suffered. He is trying to support a democratic overhaul of Haiti, but he is being targeted because of it.

A Volvo is one of the safest cars out there. It also appears that all the kids in the vehicle were wearing their seatbelt, which is probably a huge reason none of them were seriously hurt. Luck for them all, wishes for a speedy recovery. :-)

yes, they were. I was really lucky to have great open communication even when something was wrong from a very early age. I always knew, no matter how bad it was my parents loved me and would help me thru it. as a side topic, my dad had this policy whenever something came up that i felt that he would freak out over, i would let him know that i needed to talk to him or my mom as a friend. And they did. I had friends and family members that would come to my parents for help because they knew there would be no judgement, just guidance and help to do whats right. if I'm half the parent they were, i will consider myself a success. Good luck to you!!!

So sad. condolences to the family of this woman. I hope that it was not drug/alcohol related, and due to the time, she might have just fallen asleep at the wheel. Use good judgement each time you drive and if you think you're too tired to drive, don't. RIP

Prayers to all the families and the driver for strength and healing for this tragic event. Please always remember to teach your kids that it's ok to call for a ride anytime, even if they are somewhere they shouldn't be. My parents had this rule for me and my siblings and i wound up using it once. There was no conversation that night, except my dad to tell me that he was glad i called. We then talked about it the next day, and the punishment was probably less than it should have been because he was relieved i had the good judgement to call. RIP

KOMO - Seattle, WA : In union strongholds, residents wrestle with cuts | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | K

It certainly is a polarizing topic. I grew up with a dad that was part of a union, and watched him wrestle with the decision to become an exempt employee for his company. Ultimately he decided to go with becoming exempt, but he has always supported his workers that are union. He considers himself a Republican, but believes that unions are necessary due to the benefits that they provide. I'm not saying unions may not need to be reigned in a bit, but there are lots of men/women out there that choose a trade/apprenticeship program, rather than the traditional college route. These people are now doing some of the jobs that are dangerous and labor intensive that other people would hate doing or not risk doing. My husband is also union, and his company is making the most money in their history, however the last labor agreement stated they could not "financially afford" to continue the insurance benefits, so a plan was put in place in increase their patient cost shares and premium amounts. The union protected them from having to pay for their insurance entirely themselves, and helped reach a compromise regarding this and other benefits. The company eliminated the pension, and went strictly to a 401k, but the workers who were already part of the union get to keep their pension. New workers do not. So there are benefits, especially when there is compromise on both the side of the union/workers. Bad news is that even with the union support, that didn't stop his company from eliminating his dept here in WA and moving to another state. (all under the same umbrella union) all the companies have to do is say "business need" They have the option of moving with them, but a cross country move is not in our plans. I personally work at a company that has great benefits and treats their workers well, but i have friends that work in similar industry companies, that get half of what I get, that, if there was a union, we would be on the same level ground. wow, that wound up being longer that I planned, but like I said, it's a polarizing topic. :-)
