Daily Camera.com: : Dave Boylan: Stupid is as stupid does - Boulder Daily Camera

From a 16-year Boulder resident: I disagree with Dave Boylan. Most bikers in this town are NOT awesome especially on mixed-use trails. As over-crowding and over-building takes hold of Boulder, the problem has only gotten worse as 90% of bikers I encounter whip past me and my 85# dog without ANY regard to our safety. All I or my dog has to do is move suddenly 6" to my left and WHAMMO I'd lose a kidney and my dog would be badly injured. It absolutely baffles my mind how inconsiderate and just plain 'ol stupid these people are. ALL one has to do is announce your presence well in advance (which 10% do --thank you) and there would be NO issue. I think ALL bikers in this town should go to a class and get certified and have a sticker on their bike (ala Boulder dog-owners) because it's blatantly obvious most either don't know or choose to shirk the rules. God help the biker who clips me or my pet or any of my family members the next time they're too lazy or cool or whatever to say anything to ensure everyone's safety, as you will be reading about a beat-down of a biker of epic proportions on DailyCamera.com. After 16 years of putting up with inconsiderate bikers, my patience is now zero. I'd gladly take the jail time and publicity to prove a point.

GPPCI: You are absolutely delusional. You're either a) a paid RTD shill b) a newbie who's recently moved here or c) totally clueless. The citizens of Boulder County have been paying tax on this piece of s*&t project for 10 YEARS now. And what do we have? The OPTION to PAY MORE money to drive in the Lexus Lanes. RTD leaders should honestly be legally tried over this debacle. Go back to your McMansion and wash your Acura. Jerk.

I've been a Boulder small business owner for 14 years. It's blatantly obviously you don't currently nor have you ever owned a small business as you are completely out of touch with the realities such businesses face. You cite rhetoric like your reading from a textbook--and it always works--in the classroom only.

He's *choosing* to kick out a Boulder icon in the name of padding his pocket book which is thick enough as-is. Even business owners can "do the right thing" in the name of community over pure profit.

I will bet a $15 tap beer on the Mall that Tebo signs a high visibility business for the spot like Twitter, Microsoft, etc. Tebo can charge far more $/foot than an ordinary indie diner can pay. Just keep on homogenizing Boulder...pretty soon it will look like Schaumburg, IL with a nicer backdrop.

This absolutely sucks. The Boulder Cafe was one of the few spots you could go and have good food at a decent price on the mall. The place was always doing a brisk business. It was locally owned and didn't wreak of yuppiness (or the 2010's version of this) and didn't draw the foodie snobs. This is just another example of how our fair city is progressing (or regressing) toward gentrification, like it or not. Too bad most people living in this town put so much emphasis on their McMansions/scrape-offs, army-tank SUV's, and soul-sucking, robotic, unfulfilling corporate jobs--just so they can all keep up with the Kardashians. The Boulder Beer Challenge: Which trendy poser-filled bar will be the first to serve a $20 tap beer? Bets anyone?

Daily Camera.com: : Report: Housing, income inequality stain Boulder County\'s overall health - Boulder Daily Camera

A viewpoint from someone who has lived in Boulder for 17 years: Though some of the changes that are (rapidly) affecting Boulder can be seen as positive, I feel many more are not. On the positive side, I see more name-brand businesses setting up in Boulder (Google, Twitter) and the city continues to be a hub of activity for entrepreneurs (self) and start-ups. Boulder is widely recognized on a national-level as being an AAA location recognized for avant garde technology and all things ingenuity. But this has come at a cost. Gone are Juanita's, Tom's Tavern, Rocky Mountain Joe's, and soon the Boulder Café, among others. All of these places were Boulder icons whom almost everyone frequented at some point. These establishments have been replaced with very high-end restaurants catering largely to the $100K+ crowd, i.e., the $18 "burger plate." Case in point, a friend of mine and me went out last weekend and had a beer at the Bitter Bar. The beer was a well-known tap variety, very warm, and after tip the bill came to over $14--for TWO beers. Give me a break... The housing issue has been the biggest concern. There are developments going up on every postage stamp sized lot in the city all in the name to offer more housing. The problem is the vast majority of these "affordable" units STILL only cater to those at or approaching the $100K mark, so the entire plan has defeated the initial objective and purpose. With this trend has brought a lot more traffic, and many entitled and inconsiderate people who feel their stock portfolio and 401K balance is somehow related to their level of importance and influence (the next time you’re there, count the number of gigantic Lincoln Escalades taking up two parking spaces at Whole Foods because the driver was "too busy" to re-park it). The open space trails are another area that has gotten out of control. In 17 years, I have NEVER experienced the number of inconsiderate users as I have over the past two years. Bikers flying by at 20 MPH who don't say a word missing me and my pet by inches, garbage and litter everywhere, and just general overcrowding. For those who have recently moved here, there was actually a time not that long ago when Boulder was a friendly town, MUCH less pretentious, and where people were generally considerate and helpful. You could find housing on a modest income. You could also visit many independent (yes, independent) businesses on the Pearl Street Mall and grab a burger and beer for a reasonable price. People were considerate on the open space trails and didn't treat them like the Indy 500 Speedway or their personal garbage can. But, I guess "progress" comes at a price.

This is a horrible tragedy. It's not out of the realm of possibility that she was "brainwashed" by Kan given the circumstantial evidence. It will be tough to prove though unless other people come forward which can happen. I've often wondered what goes on at Naropa. The school is egregiously expensive and most people I know that graduate from there rack up huge debt and end up in low paying retail or similar jobs. Most of the majors are kind of fluffy. I think it's perhaps a great place to teach or be a professional student if you're in to that sort of thing. I would love to see some actual statistics re: how many graduates get paid positions in their field of study and at what pay rate.

We can all thank City Council for doing NOTHING on the train noise issue for years despite continual requests from area residents for quiet zones. Just wait until the new residents at Boulder Junction get jolted at 1, 2, 4, and 5 AM by train noise. I live in Kings Ridge and the noise in the summer is horrific while trying to sleep with windows open, JHC, City Council!
Daily Camera.com: : Boulder councilman wants development moratorium - Boulder Daily Camera

I have been living in Boulder for 16 years now and have noticed a dramatic change--for the worse--in quality of living over the past few years. It seems like there is a construction project going on a EVERY postage-stamp-sized lot in the city. All leading to more congestion on the road and especially the open space area. I walk/run on the Cottonwood Trail every day and have noticed a drastic increase in the overall traffic, GARBAGE, dog and human excrement (yes, gross, I know), and inconsiderate trail users. Maybe this is all part of "progress." Driving in Boulder has gotten to be a JOKE. Good luck getting anywhere between 4-6 PM. People honking, running red lights, and more and more cars. This is REALLY concerning: "The mid-rise apartment and condo projects the city has approved haven't provided more affordable housing, she said, despite the promises." -Lisa Morzel, Boulder City Council Member. So all of these ultra-high density projects were built NOT to make Boulder affordable, but to line the pockets of builders at our expense??!! Unbelievable (but not really)... Boulder is turning into "Any-Town, USA" with pretty views.

Daily Camera.com: : Wildlife officials: Moose shot by bow hunter at Brainard Lake was legal, \'clean\' kill - Boulder Da

As a 16-year CO resident and avid Indian Peaks and surrounding area user, I am absolutely APPALLED at this. This is SO WRONG on so many levels I don't even know where to start. But here goes: 1- The moose population in IP or the adjacent area isn't so great that there even needs to be an open season on them. 2- There is PLENTY of food in the area to support vast amounts of wildlife especially with the additional moisture over the past few years. So kill supporters, don't try to make some sort of "necessary CULLING" argument. BS. It's weak and without fact or merit. 3- Brainard Lake is the last place anyone should be shooting anything. The place needs stop and go lights 10 months out of the year sans heavy mud season. The hunter's choice to hunt and shoot there was reckless and the CDOW should be castigated too for offering the tags to hunt in the area. 4- I suppose the hunter, after his "mighty kill," field dressed it by quartering and burying the guts too right? How in the hell did he get the quartered carcass out of there without any use of an ATV because they don't allow ATVs there? 5- If the guy is so bad off, he should apply for food stamps and other means of gov't assistance--while he still can, that is. No one with a newly installed pacemaker should be hiking with gear, hunting, field dressing, and hauling moose anyway. 6- Mother Nature has been taking care of business re: the moose for the past 10,000-20,000 years on her own. I don't think we need an army of Elmer Fudds with bows or pop guns in recreational places helping her out. If anything, reintroduce the gray wolf or grizzly bear back to parts of Colorado ala Montana and Wyoming and let nature handle things on its own. (clap) (clap) (clap): Mr. Hunter, you are a true 100% brain donor. CDOW: the people there who allowed this should be fired and names made public.

This area has become the go-to spot for dealing (usually meth), turning tricks, and generally vagrancy. Boulder needs to grow a pair and get TOUGHER on these types as their lifestyle is a CHOICE which you and I are funding through our tax dollars (police, emergency, etc.). *Some* of the older homeless may have gotten a bad break or two, be mentally/physically ill, war veterans who never quite "recovered", etc. But to see 20-somethings with their whole life ahead of them just WASTING their opportunity, it makes me sick. Are they going to live on the grass and in shelters their whole life? Everybody has a tough-luck story if they want to spin it that way. I have no sympathy or patience for people who make this CHOICE.

I'm not sure where exactly where they found the meatballs, but if it were close to a residential area the culprit may have been trying to poison coyotes or raccoons. Still, unacceptable and I hope they find this sociopath. BTW, I called animal control this morning about some suspicious capsules laying around at the Cottonwood Trail trail head since Monday by the waste containers adjacent to the parking lot. They were larger than the pellets in the meatballs (about marble sized) but my dog showed a lot of interest in eating them. They may have been balls/ammo for a paint ball gun as they had a semi-soft blue-green shell with yellow-brown liquid in them.
