....because there are no legal hispanics in the United States?!?! Come on, don't make this story into something that it's not. Two girls, one kidnapped by two men. Race of assailants aside, there is nothing in this story about immigration.

Every latino I know can swim. I just sent out a FB poll. My husband is Mexican and can swim. All of his family members can swim. They have pools in Latin America and lifeguards and beaches...and large bodies of water called oceans that surround their continents, isthmuses, islands, etc. I'm white and I can hardly dog-paddle. There is no "common knowledge" that hispanics can't swim. I think we call that "prejudice", "racism", "profiling", or sheer stupidity on the part of the idiot that would believe a blog to be common knowledge.

Kind of reminds me of that little British girl who went missing in Portugal a few years back. All it takes is a little selfishness on the part of the parent and a child can easily go missing or be killed.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Cancer death rate gap widens based on education | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KOM

That's what I am saying; it's not so much education but money. People who have an education, even a 2-year or a tech diploma, still have more opportunities to visit a doctor when they feel under-the-weather, and thus more of an opportunity to catch cancer in its earliest stages. Of course cancer doesn't discrimintate; it's not a THINKING creature, just a malevolent one. As someone who has a relatively good education, I can tell you that I could not afford insurance until I earned a job after my graduation. When my husband was diagnosed with cancer before we had insurance, the hospital charged us 89,000$ for his surgery and radiation. We are still paying it off, a little at a time, but check-ups and MRIs cost us next to nothing now.

Okay, it could simply be a matter of money. A college graduate generally earns more than a high school graduate, and has more access to healthcare (generally, not in all cases, obviously). A person with no insurance will not always seek medical help after feeling sick for a time. A person with insurance/education to get a job that has good insurance, will likely see a doctor sooner, because the expense is a lot less. I just checked over the paperwork that my insurance company sent us for a visit to the emergency room. It cost the insurance company 900$ to get a shot of epinephrine and have a doctor asses my husband's wasp sting. I was only charged fifty of that. I cannot imagine being without insurance and being expected to cough up that kind of money, especially if you have a family to feed during these tough economic times. All in all, though, more research into this should be done before being posted in the news.

Yes, his cancer came on really suddenly. He was terribly traumatized, and he had quite a bit of time to mentally prepare himself for the loss. He decided against a prosthetic but I think he wishes now that he had gotten it. It really is a terrible part of the body for a man to lose. I feel so bad for you guys!! But he is much better now, even jokes about it, so I know he is coming around.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : FDA posts sunscreen rules after decades-long delay | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News |

They should also make a specific note on the bottle that sunscreen is not immediately effective against these UV rays. One has to wait about 15 minutes (out of the sun) for the skin to absorb some of the sunscreen for it to be effective. Otherwise, you could still end up with a burn, depending on how fair-skinned you are. I learned this the hard way, unfortunately.

Wow! This ad is awesome. I had a colonoscopy two years ago. The worst part is when the nurse has to hear you fart before you are allowed to leave (but you are so drugged out that you hardle notice!). Not all doctors will tell you when you need it. Sometimes you have to ask, and this billboard might help people to remember to ask. Too bad they are gone. Adding humor to an embarrassing situation always eases the embarrassment a little.

Yep, you proved me correct. You are an uppity grandstander. And very likely, in the time in which she was performing these tricks, if she had been free, she would have been murdered for her skin or her flesh in some far-flung country. Regardless, your point is moot because she is now dead and animals are hardly treated in this fashion in this country. Good luck with gaining perspective and learning lessons from history; your excessive capitalization and repetitiveness will teach you (and anyone else) nothing.
