<description>It might be helpful after the frost has killed off the foliage, to use a mulch, maybe pine needles or some other type of mulch, to cover the root stock of the plant for the winter.  You can remove the heavy mulch in the early spring after you are past the extreme cold months.  The mulch will insulate and protect from the frost and snow touching the roots directly.  </description>

<description>I just confirmed the climate zones for the Hardy Mum, and it is saying it is 5-9.  That means they will grow in tropical places, but they would be perennials.  I couldn&amp;#039;t image them looking really pretty being a perennial year round, so I don&amp;#039;t think they are very popular in tropical climates.  </description>
