GPS doesn't require the Data plan from your cell network. The map application when downloading maps will need to download from somewhere, either the cell network or WiFi. Or alternatively you can use a 3rd party app to download maps and store them on your phone (which works like a charm may I add). I turned my data off on my cell network, so I only depend on WiFi. My GPS works fine most of the time (although there are instances where I can't get a signal and such...yet when I turn on my WiFi it works...odd). My point is, is that GPS doesn't require 3G or Edge to perform, it's seperate from the cell stuff. So if your GPS isn't working, you could try restoring or something. If it still doesn't work, then you might have a lemon on your hands.

I'm pretty certain it will remain up here...I mean this is the internet and once something is on the interwebs, it'll be there forever. Also I'm sure there are a ton of other sites which are covering this as well, so they'll also have all the information on their pages. PS: That's a no-no on the caps-lock.

You can already upgrade the firmware. Just don't upgrade the BB while doing so. You can use Pwnage for the Mac to do this. It's the Baseband that needs to stay the same. Otherwise feel free to upgrade the Firmware. At least this is what I gathered from the posts.

MuscleNerd - I am wondering about one thing. When you distribute the app via Cydia, what repo will it go/be under? I'm just curious as to whether there will be a way to determine whether an app we are downloading will be legit or not. I mean I don't want to download an "unlock app" only find that it will brick my iPhone. Will you guys have your own repo or something? Just making sure.

My mistake. I assumed he/she was talking about the US T-Mobile network. Funny since I'm in Canada now and not the US.

From my understanding and what others have stated in the blogs, no it will not work with T-Mobile's 3G network due to differences in frequency (for 3G). Anyone care to confirm?

Actually this would probably be a much better solution. Haha, didn't think about repairing the phone, but this would definitely work. ;) Just make sure it's with an authorized repairshop, just for an extra measure of security/safety.

Hmm weird, my post was deleted...I don't believe I said anything bad. Anyway, I say get a new iPhone. In my opinion it would be pointless to keep the current phone which has a broken headphone jack. You could get a new iPhone and try and trade with someone in your area for either a NIB iPhone with a 2.1 F/W, or you could find a used iPhone (mind you in very good condition of course) and check to make sure the BB is the workable BB. Alternatively you could sell the NIB iPhone and get another one in hopes that it will work with the unlock. In any case, I'd say any phone would be better than one which is broken. Just my opinion though.

Personally, without a proper working headphone jack, I find it pointless to keep. I'd take the iPhone from the store and try to find someone else who would be willing to trade iPhones. Hopefully the person you trade with has an iPhone with 2.1 or earlier on it (or at the very least kept the BB the same as 2.1). I'm sure you can find someone who either has an unopened iPhone and would be willing to trade, or someone with a very good condition phone, who wouldn't mind a NIB iPhone. Either way, I wouldn't keep the one you have now. Just my opinion though.

I believe when you connect it to iTunes it will state that there is an update available. At this point you can select cancel and don't ask me again. Something along those lines. Also I believe there might be somewhere in the preferences to disable auto-update in iTunes. Assuming you are connected to the internet and such, so that it can check for updates. At least that's my experience with iTunes.

If possible, you could try and sell your iPhone you have now. Then with the money you made, you could try and buy another iPhone that has the proper baseband installed. Perhaps a used one would be best? Otherwise at the moment there is no possible way to downgrade the baseband. You will have to wait for an exploit to be found.
