"Actually governing"? The earthquake in Western politics behind the rise in the far right throughout the West does not even get a mention.

Colonist problems. If "The Crucible" were the scenario, we would be the Native Americans, not the colonists. According to the Wikipedia entry for the Pequot War, "The result was the elimination of the Pequot tribe as a viable polity in Southern New England, and the colonial authorities classified them as extinct". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pequot_War

Ending socially harmful immigration is just the first step. Our politicians need to start telling us how the Government is going to halt and then reverse the social changes which the socially irresponsible immigration policies of past governments have caused. This will require an essential admission of fault from the top tier of politicians, a condemnation of past errors, and radical new thinking. The same problem arises throughout the Western world.

A brief account of the pacification of Burma, from 1886 to 1890, is given in Kwasi Kwarteng's book, "Ghosts of Empire". He states (p183) "the burning of villages was a technique which ensured that the annexation of Burma was one of the most ruthless episodes in the British imperial story". Kwasi Kwarteng, the Tory MP, is great, but one might infer from his account that that we don't have the spine to run an empire nowadays.

Charles Lawley says that Aung San Suu Kyi is in fact really the Sheriff of Nottingham. About 700,000 have been driven out of Myanmar, with more than 10,000 killed. I would not trust Charles Lawley, or anyone in the UK, to sort this out. Maybe Aung San Suu Kyi is the best person to be in charge, after all. Remember what a disaster our "humanitarian" but clueless intervention caused in Libya.

I'm certainly no expert in politics, but I have read "The Politics of Cultural Despair", by Fritz Stern, about historical aspects of German nationalism. I'm afraid that I see Hitler as essentially a nationalist, and neither a Marxist nor a liberal.

Has the "strongly pro-refugee stance" included opposing EU payment to Turkey and Libya to reduce the flow of refugees? If not, the far right seem both to have gained voters and converted the other parties to their point of view. So they are making progress. The forces that cause this are not abating. It is insulting to refer to far right, or other, voters as making a "consumer choice". It's a principled choice.

One of Trump's slogans was "We are going to take our Country back". "Build the Wall" was chanted by Trump crowds. On Monday, 7th December, 2015, he released a statement which he later read to a rally at Mount Pleasant, California, "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on". He stood as an ethno-nationalist. A study showed that preference for Trump was related the perceived threat to "white Americans’ sense of dominant group status". The report is here: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2018/04/18/1718...
You are saying that Johnson would pivot leftwards after election, I agree, but Trump did not pivot rightwards after election, he stood and was elected as an ethno-nationalist.

Trump did not pivot leftwards. It is reasonable to see Trump as an ethno-nationalist, and quite a hard-liner, so not similar to Boris.

The suicide vest newspaper piece, like the burqua newspaper piece, is fake Islamophobia. But nothing is more serious than the growth of Islam in Western countries.
