ah, so simply put! john krasinski is awesome, i agree. i was also quite saddened hearing of natasha richardson's death - and on a slightly different note uk r-tv star jade goody lost her battle with cancer this morning too.

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Paul Blart: Mall Cop (Review)

Why do they think we enjoy these kind of films? It amazes me that they even get decent budgets, let alone how much they make by people's hard-earned money. I had to read the praise for Zohan and Chuck/Larry twice because I thought you couldn't be serious. That caught me off guard before reading on!

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Watchmen (Review)

Okay, so I FINALLY saw the film, so here's my two cents: unbelievably faithful to the novel, what was left out was compensated for by cameos anyway. Soundtrack was really awesome, particularly liked the subtle use of 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' during Veidt's discussion with negotiators. To me, 'Hallelujah' represented something good to come out of the dark place the Watchmen find themselves in. Casting was spot on, particularly with the Comedian and Dan Dreiberg. They were exactly as the book depicted them. It's uncanny just how much they actually look like the drawn characters and managed to pull it off. Perhaps having read the book it was easier to grasp, but it appeared easy to follow on screen. Visually it was stunning. It asks a lot of questions about who we are as people and our society - that's why I felt so compelled to write something about it. I really do see it as relevant to our world now. One of the films of the year already. Expectations were upheld. Excellent!

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Between The Aisles - Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Eclipse Director & Trailer for Ink

Why are they getting another director for Eclipse is what I want to know... not enough faith in Weitz already? They only just started filming New Moon! I just hope that multiple directors doesn't affect the continuity of the story. As for Alice, that is looking to be amazing!

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Gomorrah [Gomorra] (Review)

Unfortunately I only had a little knowledge about it before seeing it, but I think that a film's purpose most of the time should be to let the audience in and understand what's happening. I just felt too distanced from it, and although that can work in certain films, here I felt confused by it.

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Closed For Winter (review)

Yeah, I was curious as to why they changed the title... a better marketing ploy perhaps? I haven't read the novel but had heard of it - it's usually easier to keep the name the same so then people read it.

Believe me, all I had heard were raves from critics, etc. saying this was fantastic - but it just didn't capture my interest. I'm not against mafia stories by any means, but I was just bored by it. I was very disappointed by the boredom too because I rarely dislike a film! Catch it if you can and let us know what you think!

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : 81st Academy Award Winners: 'Slumdog' sweeps the board

Was the foreign film win an upset too? I was banking on The Class or Waltz With Bashir but I saw that and was surprised. I was really happy with Hugh, the dance numbers were funny but not too cheesy, and was of course in tears with Heath's win. Oh, and Man on Wire won best doco! Then again, I'm not sure about its competition...

Cut Print Review | Movie Reviews and Commentary : Zack and Miri Make a Porno (Review)

Lol, I just wrote out a review for this and then I see you've beaten me to it! Were you at the marion session last night then? I seem to have liked it a bit more than you did... I found it to be a more accessible film character-wise from Smith and as a result a more accessible film to a wider audience (than say, Clerks - although it's a shame more people haven't seen that, I enjoyed that a lot). I do agree, Long's cameo was solid (I thought Brandon Routh's was too, good to see him in something post-Superman) but the supporting cast all had something to give. I think Smith as a director knows how to use camera movement and music really well, and with Rogen and Banks (who's in everything right now) there was little chance of this totally tanking. A bit more schmaltzy than I expected, but in a really weird way I thought it fit. And the laughs weren't that thin, it's more the awkward cringing stuff that makes it funny. I'll say 4 stars because Smith pulls off the vulgarity as a director probably better than anyone else. And Rogen showed difference to his other roles.

I think watching it on a big screen probably affects you more but it really is a fascinating story. It wouldn't be if Petit wasn't such a flamboyant guy but what he achieved is amazing by even today's standards. Step outside the square!
