Enduring my current situation, I wish I could say I am surprised. However, almost every person who has a caregiver will be abused at one point or another. I don't have statistics to pack this up, but the pessimistic (as people who cannot believe this) attitude I apparently display (while trying to find a place to live after my caregiver tried to murder me and starved me for months on end) is based on experience. Abuse is far more prevalent with the disabled and often, even when reported nothing is done about it.

You might just be surprised (you is the generic you, to anyone not specifically Renee) how
many times abuse can be hidden, and what you will do out of fear or with the need to survive. I am surprised he was able to get word out for interviews, as with restricted motion usually comes restricted communication. What isn't be said as well? What other costs is he suffering for his choice to advocate for his needs?

Through the fault of our modern media likely, his story will be chopped into sound bites that leave out questions that I ask a woman with a disability must ask. Too I am drawn to this story, for there are mirrored moments in even those sound bites.

I feel a resonating cry of fear
I feel the shaking of a thunder
It is universal fear
It is felt by another
The sorrow and loneliness
The lost wisdom
The ignorance of the world
Left to suffer
left to die.

If he is able to be interviewed, why aren't people stepping in to return this man to his mobility? How many others weren't able to speak up but face similar conditions? Will he be given fluids or will he dehydrate slowly adding to his suffering with the promised infected bedsores?

His caregivers should be prosecuted.

Just like mine however, I doubt it will happen. When you are a marginalized body, especially disabled, your life is less valued than that of your abuser. So in my case he can walk free, stalking me and trapping me. He can lay in wait for the eviction notice, then he can try again with no protection offered besides a piece of paper.

No it isn't just you and your friends. Pink is awful. I have one pink outfit so I can match my cat (shush you). I have worn it once. It was a gift. I look at it daily and go "Eh pink is so girly." Then I wear black or... black...

Thanks for filling me and the rest of the world that doesn't drink energy drinks on Stalk...HER...

Wow I haven't had fast food in a long time. Even then the most I eat is a Del Taco bean cup and maybe a taco. I like the beans. Their beans are completely gluten free as are their tacos, which is NOT true of taco Bell. taco Bell wheats even their MEAT. Nasty m.... you know.

Still I feel best without fast food.

That shirt is not a sunday shame thing at all, it's lovely! I myself tend to be up on the fashion trends and work them around the scooter/wheelchair with limited motion comforts. Sometimes this means I wear the dread stained sweatpants with a ratty teeshirt. Until recently this had enveloped my entire wardrobe., That error has been remedied so I can be classy whenever i want now too. Now I just need to find bunch proof pants that I can sit with.

In the schools I attended when we learned about the Kennedys, well after this happened, there was never mention of this murder. I found out about it as an adult in college. It changed my views and left me frightened because the Kennedy's are not the only ones who could wield this kind of power. It is wielded by most political figures and Celebrities. Daisy, thank you so much for this. It is appreciated.

None. There is no equivalent value to a life. He cannot ever work off what he did to this woman.

Renee this point is also one that is used to say that reasonable accomodation is unreasonable here in the US. Often, people complain if we don't all have the same requests. It's ridiculous but true. The differences and diverseness with in disability are used to further our oppression.

Would some of those ice pick shoe things for walking on slippery ice help? It might destroy the flooring but it would prevent you from falling right?

You might want to see if there is a low income assistance option for health care. I myself have EDS and I know the trials of other disabling injuries. Many states have a small fund, at a specific hospital that will help you if you qualify. This is in the US, and I am guessing since you don't have access, that this is why you have no help medically.

Also, be glad that the store scooters exist. Not every store has them, they aren't legally required to pay for them. You can also try checking out your local Accessibility laws, because if the store is unable to handle their low quality scooters, then what happens when a person like me with their own set of wheels comes in?
