Pardon my free association here, but I have wondered how Obama's election has played in Japan (other than in the town named Obama.) Wasn't it not so long ago that some Japanese politician had foot in mouth disease about the U.S. "mixing races" being responsible for the greater academic achievement of the Japanese, and I seem to recall that that was a common viewpoint over there due to their homogeneity?

If we'd had a few more fiscal conservatives around, maybe we wouldn't be in this current economic mess, imho. Don't confuse wingnutism with true fiscal conservativism.

I don't attach that much importance to having been in elective office, everyone has a first term. It's not like that part is rocket science.

Plus Duckworth's own experiences give her insights that can't be replicated by someone who hasn't been thru what she has.

I think this needs to be specific, how bad is the ethics failure, how bad is the opposing candidate. There's no way I'd vote for a pedophile, but I'd vote for Edwards if he were running against a Republican who had Republican views. If he were running against a RINO, I'd vote for the RINO.
