/Film : Box Office Tracking: Transformers 2 Could Take $175 Million In First Five Days

Totally expected. Transformers has one of the broadest appeals around. Every time I'm at the theatre I hear people remark about the standee. People of different ages, races, gender, just about everyone you can think of is waiting for this movie.

/Film : IMAX Claims 98% Of Moviegoers Don't Notice The Difference... Yeah, Right!

This is not IMAX's fault. This is your fault. All of you. For not saying a fucking thing when conversion started happening a couple years ago. You all went to the converted theatres and watched your movies and didn't say a damn thing. And now because some random comedian pitches a fit you all jump on the bandwagon like the sheep you are. Besides, the presentation will be even better now because you will watch a movie free of scratches, free of sound issues, free of reel changes, there's no chance of a brain wrap, no platter drops, nothing like that. But no, none of you even care about that. Why should you? You just listen to what you want to hear.

/Film : How Can IMAX Save Their Name Brand?

IMAX Digital would have been a fine name, and AMC, Regal, et al suggested such. IMAX did screw up in that respect, but we also have to take into account that most of the IMAX digital theaters started life with standard IMAX film and projectors, and only recently have they been converted into digital systems. As for two 2K projectors vs a 4K, I've yet to see a HUGE difference between the two. What matters to me is that it's a definite step up from film projection (even though film is not without its charms). And as I said before, I gladly pay to extra money to see movies in Digital IMAX, because I know I'm getting a viewing/listening experience that is superior to film.

/Film : How Can IMAX Save Their Name Brand?

I am sick of this non-issue. I was SO glad that this site hadn't picked this shit up yet, but now I'm extremely disappointed. Hollywood movies are not shot on 70mm IMAX film, and they never will be because it's too expensive to do so. In the end the larger screen won't mean jack shit for a movie like Star Trek because they don't change the aspect ratio during the digital conversion. That means the movie is projected in a "letterbox" format, effectively cutting off a third of the film at top and bottom. In the end, the picture is perfect. The sound is beyond perfect. There's absolutely no worries about scratches or chemical splices or random color changes or sound dropping out or sound playing in stereo/mono only or reel changes or cigarette burns. So what if the screen isn't super huge? As someone else mentioned above, the quality of a standard film projection is really quite terrible when compared to a digital IMAX. Oh, and film IMAX? If there's any sort of flaw, it's ridiculously obvious. Every movie I've seen on film IMAX has had dirt particles the size of my head in various places during the entire movie. With digital, the only thing you have to worry about is catastrophic projector failure.

Actually, it's Stan Bush trying to get Bay's attention. Bush has been trying to get a song into one of these movies for a long time but he keeps getting rejected.

:( I wish Stan could have just added a new guitar solo to the original or something. Touch09 is just...terrible. Sure, the original isn't great, but it's fun as hell. As for Linkin Park, I hate them as a band, but like someone else said: So long as that song is confined to an instrumental version, it'll be fine.

Fuck, first the Red Wings lose due to bad officiating and now this?! What a terrible fucking night! This movie will be an hour and a half of nothing. No substance, no intelligence, NOTHING. Family Guy/American Dad/Seth MacFarlane is bullshit for bullshit's sake, and that pisses me off. MacFarlane is hack, and I'm super pissed that his dreck stays on TV while shows like King of the Hill, Arrested Development, and Firefly get cancelled. FUCK!

Top movie will be Transformers, just wait. It's got appeal to just about everyone below the age of 60. I work at a theater and every time someone walks by the standee they say something like "Oh man, I can't wait for Transformers". Star Trek will do good but won't play outside the gerk/nerd/dork circles, Potter will do better but still doesn't appeal to everyone like Transformers does. If you thought the first one exploded in box office numbers, just wait till Revenge of the Fallen. Total, it'll do $400 million, if not more.

92mil? I don't see it doing those numbers. High 70s to mid 80s, I bet, but 92? Seems too high for a movie that half the Internet has seen and been unhappy about.

I never understood all the vitriol against the last Transformers movie. It wasn't a good movie, no, but it was still a whole lot of fun. Seriously, what did you expect out of a movie based off a TV show that was created for the sole purpose of selling toys to kids in the 1980s?

Super meh. I watched Zombie's Halloween in the hopes that it could even somewhat compare to the original. Meyers had the single most stereotypically white trash origin imaginable. A fucking montage set to "Love Hurts"? REALLY?! Also, the man can't even effectively shoot a scene at night. The last third of the movie is just shapes of midnight blue on black.

Holy shit, you can point out genre conventions and director trademarks in a fucking popcorn movie! What do you expect out of "Transformers"? It's a movie about cars/trucks/planes/etc that transform into giant alien robots. Yes, it was horribly written and acted, yes the plot was weak, yes it stars Shia LaBeouf, but for fuck's sake man, it's based on a bunch of die-cast toys out of Japan! Just accept it for what it is and enjoy being a kid again, or move on with your life.
