Hm. I remember finding FW appealing when it was first rolled out, but I never really got into it. Definitely something to look into now, though!

Geeks are Sexy Technology News : Technological Superiority: Star Wars vs. Star Trek [Infographic]

Debating Star Wars vs. Star Trek, espeically on the basis of their comparative technologies, is a logical nightmare. Neither universe was written with the intent of meshing with the other. The various technical manuals that give measurements on energy use for weapons and so on were written only to scale within that universe. Trying to compare the one to the other is like comparing an apple and an AK-47 - there is no true, impartial, and universally consistent way to compare the two. For example, while the statistics comparing the Etnerprise-D and Slave One may be pulled from equivalent sources, I recall a point in an Original Series episode where Jim Kirk talks about how his Enterprise - the one from a better part of a century before the Enterprise-D, mind you - had the capability to destroy all life on a planetary surface inside of 24 hours, anecdotally giving it the equivalent or near-equivalent firepower of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. TL;DR: This debate is pointless, can never be properly concluded, and only frustrates those of us that are fans of both franchises.

Inanity and Doom : What to do?

Yeah, I'm not too satisfied with missioning, either. I hadn't really thought about wormholes; I wouldn't even know where to start with those, to be perfectly honest!

Eve News24 : #TweetFleet to get #Screwed by @GoonSwarm Next?

It's like Burn Jita/Hulkageddon. Given how much lead time I get in hearing about it, I have plenty of time to plan ahead - avoid Jita, cease mining operations, and, in this case, warm up the ol' "block" and "block and report for spam" commands. Too easy.

Eve News24 : The Kadeshi: This is how EVE is meant to be played.

First, get an editor. The amount of typos and grammatical errors made reading this almost physically painful. Second, speaking as a former real world intelligence analyst, I don't care if your "asset" (I think you've watched a few too many spy movies, bro) did reveal himself to your targets: You NEVER, EVER reveal sources and methods. I don't care if everyone does it; this is basic operational security stuff, you moron.

The Wizard of Duke Street : Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Side note first: If you're playing Oblivion or Morrowind (or Fallout 3 or New Vegas, for that matter) on PC and you're not at least looking for mods, you're doing it wrong. Do a Google search for something like "top essential mods" and add the title of the game, and you should get a good start. Primarily, I wanted to mention that I agree - I love sandbox games like Oblivion, or Fallout, or EVE, for that matter - and I think it's essential that any game include at least some level of ability for you to choose your methods. I understand that not all games will have that - a game like Splinter Cell or Alpha Protocol would only offer you the sneak/shoot/charm methods to finish a mission (or as I call them, the Bond/Bourne/Bauer Trilogy) whereas Skyrim will basically give you an objective and let you decide how/when/if you complete it. Sadly, game makers feel a lot of the time as if they need to cater to the lowest common denominator and make a game that any 10/14/18 year old can pick up and not get horribly lost - one of the major complaints I hear about EVE, especially from people who are used to theme park MMOs. Different strokes, I suppose.

Diary of a Pod Pilot : Bittersweet Incarna #2: Mass hysteria and the media

So they don't rule it out entirely - "no plans right now, but it's something we may kick around internally and bring up to the CSM again as we rework the idea to try and make it more acceptable to you." I don't think a lot of us would be really happy about it, but it would be a fair bit better, to me, than simply ignoring the figurative elephant in the room.

I'm not saying your're wrong. In fact, on a lot of levels I hope you're right! But the thing for me is, if things are being taken out of context, and we are all overreacting... why hasn't CCP said so yet? It wouldn't take long for someone to get onto Twitter and say "Hey guys, we're still working out how to address everybody's concerns, but short answer: no plans for non-vanity microtransactions." Or post that in the forums. The fact that they have not for some reason worries a lot of folks, including me. Hopefully, we're all panicking about nothing, and come Monday things will get settled down and we'll all go back to the pew-pew.

Inanity and Doom : I\'m a bit fed up.

See, that's what I was getting at in the first place. I fully admit, and have done so repeatedly, that with pretty much all other races' ships being armor-tanks, Caldari shield-tank ships aren't the best choice for fleet fights. My post was mostly pointed towards those who have the opinion that not having the skills to fly armor tanks isn't an excuse. I have seen coalition fleets in my last nullsec alliance that kicked people that brought Caldari ships, even when they were able to say, with full honesty, that they were training for Gallente/Minnie/Amarr ships. It's not like you can flick a switch and transfer points in missiles/shields/Caldari to, say, artillery/armor/Minmatar.

I don't "refuse" anything. Refusal indicates the capability to do otherwise. I literally CANNOT fly anything but Caldari AT THIS POINT. I fully intend on crosstraining to something armor-tanked, probably Gallente, since I have some rail skills. And as I've said before, I completely understand why people want specific setups. What you're not understanding - or are just ignoring - is those four points I mentioned above. If I cannot fly an armor tank, understand the additional risk, understand that I won't be getting any reimbursement, but am otherwise compatible with the fleet, I see no reason for an FC to turn away additional damage. And "not optimum for nullsec" doesn't mean "worst in class." It just means "not optimum for nullsec."

Yes, Caldari have combat ships. They're just not used as often. The repper was there because my last nullsec alliance didn't always have logi on the field. And as I said, I understand why fleet composition is important. I do, and I agree with it. But here's where I don't agree. (1) Pilot cannot fit preferred armor tank ship. (2) Pilot can fit comparable shield tank ship. (3) Pilot is willing to accept that they're pretty well guaranteed to lose the ship. (4) Pilot is willing to accept that they won't get reimbursed from the alliance for loss of the ship. If all four conditions are met, and especially in CTA ops where - by definition - you want everyone in space in your fleet, then get over yourself and fucking let them fly.

Yeah, I guess. Part of me would sympathize, but another part says "well, it's a mistake they'll only make once!" EVE is, after all, a very... unforgiving game. But a good chunk of those same newbies who frak up and get CONCORDoken'd would end up ragequitting, go bitch on their MySpace page about the fact that the game is crap... et cetera. It's definitely a puzzler.
