Density advocates are in cahoots with developers.

I've been covering this story from the opposing perspective (of pro-growth Will Toor) here: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com

Here's an interesting take from a Berkeley resident against density: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-be...

Just because somebody opposes density doesn't mean they don't support well-thought-out changes, public transportation, cycling, bike paths, and reducing greenhouse emissions. The pro-density people like Will Toor will try to convince you otherwise. Don't drink his kook-aid.

Density is all about developers. The rest of us pay the price.

For a recap of all that led up to this discussion, all that contributed to the loss of trust from residents, with quotes from participants of the Housing Boulder Working Groups and residents who attended the meetings, here's a must read and pass it around to your neighbors, too: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/06/hous...

What people are missing is that Dave is trying to sell newspapers to a demographic that is not reading the newspaper. His model is built on economic growth, just like everyone else's.

Good comments Doug and MG.

Kolin's blind spot to the real problem is that we have too many jobs here and the city is still encouraging more of them. The jobs need to dissipate into the surrounding communities, and guess what? They will... because of the Googlification of Boulder. All of Kolin's wishing in the world isn't going to matter because there are market forces far beyond what he is able to see that are driving housing prices up ever higher here as I write this.

FACT: When workers have families and too many pets to house in a small apartment and millennials tire of throwing away $27,000 per year in rent, they relocate because they want to.

I wrote up Boulder's growth rate numbers and the conditions regulating that growth very recently: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/04/what...

When I watched the Council members reluctantly respond to Driskells' exceptions and exemptions to the height rule last month I felt like I was watching a staged play. What was there not to like about his proposal if you like 55' buildings here? As for Open Boulder's petition which appears on another page in today's paper looking a bit too much like a city announcement, this is what @BoulderNeighbor had to say: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/02/heig...

Yesterday's piece by Sheets and Yin told of Boulder's history, and how it has benefited from historic preservation. No doubt, it would be the opportunist's worst nightmare if more neighborhoods in Boulder became historic districts. Some, Mr. Fiore, think that would be a great idea.. http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-...

It is surprising to see the Daily Camera use Selvan's slander against the residents of Boulder as a regular community spokesperson. It will only inflame the long-time Boulder residents and homeowners here who are already feeling forced out of this discussion by current city government. His approach is a "cheap shot" to use the inappropriate class warfare argument, which shows a total disrespect for the Boulder taxpayer who is working hard to pay their monthly bills. Pathetic. Thankfully, this site rebuts his spin: http://boulderneighbors.blogspot.com/2015/02/zane...

Here's a pretty interesting take on it and Appelbaum's comment...

Quote:

"the way in which Boulder's government is using those two reasons (diversity and affordable housing) to promote pro-development agendas along with a lack of transparency of process, is a problem. Anyone who looks deeper can see that outside investors and developers are the ones profiting from recent hideous high density buildings that have been added rapidly to our community." ...

Appelbaum's comment translated, "We know best. Leave us alone. You, the residents of Boulder, are powerless."
