Midwest Sports Fans : 'Plus-One' Game Won't Solve Unwatchable College Football Bowl Dilemma

Very true. That is the point of the tournament to weed out the illegitimate teams. So even if teams luck their way into the tourney because of a weak schedule, they should be exposed in said tourney. One question, who do you think chooses the seeds in the top 20? Committee, automatic births, human polls, computer polls? Combination of all of the above?

Great article. I agree with it all except for shortening the season. Super conferences split into two divisions is the trend, so going back to an 11 game schedule would not give you the information to formulate even a top 20. There would be too many 10-1 teams that schedule pastsies in the 2 out of conference games. And with the larger conferences, the rotation would occasionally give these same teams weak conference schedules like Georgia already not playing LSU, Alabama and Arkansas for 2 straight years. Or a Purdue not having to play Ohio State Wisconsin and Penn State. That is a formula for teams to weaken their shorter schedules so they almost guarantee themselves a playoff spot and in some cases a playoff bye. Even with 13 games, the calender to schedule a tournament would not be an issue with your proposed 20 bowl game limit. I like the potential for this format and with revenue sharing from the teams that do make the playoff back into their conference, it won't be such a big deal for 6-6 teams to get some crappy bowl game for exposure and $. Like you said no one outside of the program cares about a Pizza Bowl or Car Mechanic Bowl a day or two before or after X-mas.

Midwest Sports Fans : An era ends in Chicago: Ozzie Guillen out as manager, will reportedly head to Miami

Ozzie will truly be missed. There isn't another manager out there that genuinely instills excitement at the beginning of the season like he does. If it is his personality or just his amount of success on the South Side, there will be something obviously empty starting the 2012 year. That said Ozzie didn't want to come back next year with the teams that Kenny Williams has been giving him so it was time to move on. I just wish Kenny would be let go as well so the whole organization can start fresh.

Midwest Sports Fans : Remembering 9/11: NFL - The Never Forget League? Hardly.

I don't believe any one person/entity should decide what all "Americans need to be doing this Sunday" (or not do) on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Americans need to take their personal freedom and have the responsibility for appropriate remembrance in their own way. And that is different for each individual, like it or not, that is their American right. I believe 9/11 should be a federal holiday but like every holiday (if it is a anniversary year or not) some sports, business', life actions occur like any other day. I agree and like your stance against what you assume is the NFL's real priorities. But I will not get emotional right now about NFL statements, TV schedules and money (because I don't care about money like the Goodell Corporation does so much). All that said, my opinion could change after the fact when I witness how this Sunday is handled by the NFL but I'm not too worried about it right now. Good job. Way better article than the previous baseball/football 9/11 piece.

Midwest Sports Fans : Suspensions of Jim Tressel and Terrelle Pryor are Smart Moves by NFL

If you want to get into semantics, the Colts are in and are apart of the NFL. If someone is too lazy to read the whole article that is their problem.
I really do not believe either of them should be suspended at all this year. Unless the lockout negotiations added rules about NCAA suspensions must be carried over to NFL jobs, it is stupid. This a flaccid P.R. move after a media storm busted schools left and right all summer. This will not be consistent with any future rulings on players/coaches in similar situations IMO. Because like I said before there is no clear rule on how NCAA infractions should be handled by the NFL, if at all. You wrote: "The idea of committing major infractions in the college game and going to the NFL to escape the penalties should not be allowed by the NFL." We can argue if this is a major infraction or how stupid the rule book is all day but that is a waste of time. Facts are Tressel was forced to resign (fired), then he talked to NFL teams about job opportunities. Escape to the NFL? Please. "The Senator" wanted to be the next JoePa but in scarlett and gray. I understand it was the Tressel and the Colts agreeing to 6 games but Goddell said he would have done something if they didn't. Pryor was going to be suspended his entire senior season so the with circumstances changing he entered the supplemental draft, which the NFL let him in. Escape to the NFL? The NFL "upheld" a 5 game NCAA suspension that wasn't even valid anymore, first made in 2010. Don't let him in the supplemental draft fine but what is the point of the suspension? These suspensions are more than the zero games so many other people have gotten for breaking real judicial laws (DUI's, assaults, umm lying to cops about a murder? for example). And these 6 game suspensions are for breaking B.S. rules that the NCAA makes up as they go? No sense

Midwest Sports Fans : Fickell Decision to Start Senior Joe Bauserman over Freshman Braxton Miller the Wrong One for Buckey

Kevin is right about both guys will have a chance to prove themselves. The depth chart list handed out by Coach Fickell says 1st string QB is Joe Bauserman OR Braxton Miller. So basically that means the 5th year senior gets the right to take the first snap. Expect to see a two quarterback system for a while. Also you have to bring up the idea that Fickell has to change the culture from the previous mess. The culture of giving an entitled #1 recruit the starting nod in game one would not be conducive to changing that mentality lingering from Pryor's ego. This article is way off base and I as an Ohio State fan will never write an article offering opinion on the mess that still hangs over Meatchicken.

NO! I don't trust other people's tolerance to not act a fool. Alumni bring lots of little children to games and won't want to deal with alcohol belligerence in the stadium. It would cost hiring bigger police forces/excise cops as security. Sifting through the students' fake ID's would be a nightmare. Of course I'm a man, I'm 30.
I really don't understand how baseball can remember 9/11 but football can't. It does need to be remembered. Before the game, halftime, at every game. I went to Ohio Stadium 9/11 last year for the game against the Canes. Moment of silence and National Anthem before the game. Honoring police, medical, and firefighters on the field and in the stands during halftime. They stood in the stands and everyone else had to sit. There was crying and hugging. Miami and tOSU fans shaking hands and smiling. Postponing NFL games because 9/11 falls on a Sunday is some crazy socialist left winged crap. Just Kidding, Jon. ;)

What about going about our daily lives like Bush suggested Americans do after that tragic day. I don't think many family members of the victims want to sit around all day without football watching "television memorials" rehashing those nightmarish memories. Plus I don't see how former Presidents throwing out first pitches honors 9/11 victims either, especially considering how regional baseball viewership is. And consider watching Jimmy Carter and H.W. Bush lofting 14 mph bouncers in front of home plate doesn't really add points to anybodies patriotism card. Don't get me wrong I love White Sox baseball and would be honored to see Obama back in Chicago. But the NFL won't tread their Billion dollar football egos by ignoring proper 9/11 tribute. I think Giants-Jets will be a fitting end to the day and you know that their pre-game opening/entrance will give Americans similar patriotic chills.
