WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : WSBT poll shows Donnelly leads Walorski in 2nd District Congressional race | WSBT - News, Weather, S

Don't listen to polls. Vote your conscience. Although I like Joe, I will be voting for Jackie because someone has to take responsibility for the plight we are in. Since those currently in power appear to be powerless to correct the problem, we must move in a new direction. Unlike in years past, an incumbent already has one strike against them. I want some new faces and fresh ideas to do something (anything) to improve this terrible economy we are facing.

Isn't it ironic that a story about a spelling error would have a grammatical error in the opening paragraph. "If there is an upside to the embarrassing mistake in which South Bend’s public schools were touted on a billboard at the corner of a busy intersection last week, it’s the interest it’s generated in the city." The 2nd "it's" should not have an apostrophe in it.
"The revised bill still includes language authorizing the mayor to offer hiring bonuses up to $5,000 and performance bonuses up to $10,000." That should be enough to scare everyone into calling the City Council and voice your objection to increasing public sector wages while the private sector continues to shrink. I believe people are tired of government voting themselves raises while they struggle day-to-day to pay their bills.

Coming to a city near you!...Everyone should be prepared to see the same type of cutbacks BH is undergoing. The foreclosure problem will continue to bring down tax revenue for town's and city's resulting in less money to pay for the continued existence of bloated governments and bloated government salaries and benefits. I feel sorry for those that will be affected but public employees need to be prepared for cutbacks and the public needs to be prepared for less service. The problem is the pain going from point A to point B, but once we are at a much lower level of government then our taxes can be much lower. And that's good for everyone.

I don't care whether he's a democrat or republican, I think our governor is the best. I wish he could be our governor forever. I can't understand why people continue to bring up the toll road issue as if it's a "bad thing." That was maybe the best thing the governor has been able to accomplish. To take a program that was a net loss to the State and turn it into a a billion dollar windfall was incredible. If people would stop putting politics first, they'd realize what a gem Indiana has in its governor. And since he can't be governor again because of the two-term limit, I'd definitely vote for him for President. We need someone to get the Country headed in the right direction again. And let's not forget, the governor was giving of his time to help a good cause, the Indiana National Guard Family Relief Fund.

We all need to watch how this case develops and how it is ultimately resolved. I fear for this homeowner. This is his property and if the City wants it, they should have to pay 150% of the home's value to Mr. Curry (and only if he is willing to sell). But, ND and the City will likely get their way and the "little guy" will just have to accept the results of this "fair and impartial" decision by the courts. I, for one, am tired of government taking aways citizen's rights. God help us all.

Hey! Wait a minute....I thought all illegal immigrants were hard working, law abiding people just trying to make a better living for themselves and their families. That's what the television told me. I guess they were trying to mislead me. I guess I better draw my own conclusion from reading the daily police report in the paper. This is just one of the 12 million reasons why we absolutely need to solve our border problem.

Just another of the many problems with our Country...a 10,000 page tax code. Are you kidding me? Let's see, the government (practically all lawyers before becoming a politician) make the laws (a 10,000 page tax code) in which the average citizen needs to hire someone....say a tax lawyer, to make sure you don't overpay or worse, underpay and go to jail. What a wonderful, self-perpetuating process our government has created. The more money you have, the more you can take advantage of a 10,000 page tax code. I will continue to do my own taxes until I get audited and then the government can tell me what mistakes I made in following the law (as spelled out in their 10,000 page code book).

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Fate of unemployed rests in hands of Congress | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South Bend | Local News

I feel sorry for anyone unemployed and wanting to work right now. There just are not any jobs available. Just look at Sunday's paper and see that the classified (jobs) section is down to roughly 2 pages. A week or so ago, they even blew up many of the adds to appear as though there were more jobs. The government is also trying to hoodwink us into telling us the unemployment rate is going down. The fact is, you drop off the government figures when your normal unemployment benefits run out. So, the system itself artificially reduces the rate. I once heard an example. Say you owned a business with 10 employees and you had to lay off 5. The, a few months later, you had to lay off two more. A politician would point to this and say, "See, unemployment is coming down and we are on the road to recovery." But the rest of us know, the company is actually worse off having laid off 70% of its staff. I wish everyone success finding employment (and soon).

I am sure this goes on everyday. Have you ever looked at the daily police reports and just how many people drive without a license anymore. In this case, there is more to it. He was getting multiple licenses that were going to be sold/used by other to get other (free) benefits. Maybe a job, maybe unemployment benefits, maybe food stamps. Who knows. For most of us, our minds do not work like a criminal's mind so we can't comprehend this. For others, it is their way of life. We can thank our federal government for turning a blind eye to this massive problem.

I am in total agreement. We have become so politically correct that fear dominates common sense. Fear of taking away someone's right to text while driving (and kill me and my family in the process). It's a shame that society can't recognize their rights while driving shouldn't put others at risk....so we need laws to correct their bad behavior.
