I don't know how well it works with adults, but wearing an eyepatch over your good eye for about 2-6 hours a day is a common method of fixing a lazy eye.

If this episode was anything other than what it was, it would not have worked. It was busier than Magical Mystery Cure, and with a slightly larger cast, too. But because it wasn't supposed to be serious, or even have the mane characters in it, it was glorious.

Gummy's existential crisis was unexpected, Derpy was Derpy, and I especially loved the two princesses acting like actual sisters when they realized they forgot the gift. It really breathed some life into them. Absolute 10/10 on this one.
