Anyone would walk by and not ask questions or even after finding out the truth would continue to walk by. It is the sad truth about it. As soon as that same individual saw a person of color they would automatically take action and do something to prevent it. It is a very discomforting situation and I do not feel it will be resolved anytime soon.

When the older gentleman was asked if race played a factor in him calling the police and screaming at the black male he said absolutely not he would have done that to anyone trying to steal the bike. I do not feel this to be true. I feel that the reactions to the black male stealing the bike were simply because of his skin color. When pertaining to gender, I feel that both the female and male would have gotten away with stealing the bike, but males were more likely to assist in the female stealing the bike due to gender. I agree with the comment above that I feel they should have done this with was experimented with different races because I also feel that other races such as Asian or Latino that they would have been treated the same as the black male. I feel race plays a big part in the judgement of a person. People do not solely look at right and wrong they look at there skin color. It is very disappointing that someone reacts differently just because of one's race. I do feel that in any instance many people would walk by when seeing a white male or white female stealing something, not just a bike.

When I was watching the videos of the bike thieves I couldn't help but laugh initially. It was hilarious that so many people were willing the help the female steal the bike. Most of these individuals being male. After thinking about the situation I found it apauling that due to the color of ones skin, or the gender people were more willing to help or turn there heads. The black male did not even get five minutes before someone had called the cops. The white male on the other hand had been asked by a lot of individuals passing by and not one of them called the police even after they found out the bike was not his and he was going to steal it. When these people were stopped after they had passed and asked about the situation, no one felt the need to call the police.

Welfare was not designed to support lazy individuals and it was not designed to discourage progress. It was supposed to provide a means to success and getting ahead. Help those who help themselves. I'm not going to college and bettering my future to help people who are to lazy to go get a job and do things for themselves.

I feel that welfare was initially a good thing. I feel in today's world it has moved away from that. There are certain people on welfare that need it, use it, and benefit from it and are using it for the right reasons. However, there are a lot more individuals on it for all the wrong reasons. They use it as a way to get away with doing nothing. They use the system to get ahead and in return are hurting others. I feel that we need to start drug testing those on welfare. Florida recently passed this and is the only state that is enforcing it. I feel we need to make stricter deadlines for those who are using the system. As I said before some people that are on welfare are trying to find jobs and are only on it to help them get ahead and find a job. Others, are not they are simply using it as a way to get out of working and being responsible. If we had deadlines and ways to help those on welfare get a job, we wouldn't be wasting out money on lazy individuals who have no ambition or goals for there life. It seems pretty harsh but I don't feel that the rest of America should have to support individuals who just don't want to grow the hell up and get a job and start taking responsibility for there actions. And yes in a way I feel that welfare does discourage progress but that was not the intent

There is nothing wrong with being who you are and acting as you please. Although many individuals struggle with being different and feel it is a negative thing. It is all about what you make it and being comfortable with yourself is all that matters

We discussed gender and being able to choose your gender today in class. I feel that we do have a lot of pressure to conform to what our "gender" tells us to do. I feel that you act outside of your gender the slightest bit and it makes you different, awkward, wierd, or lesbian/gay. I feel that we need to move away from selecting certain behaviors and actions placed with a certain gender. I believe we are able to choose our gender and sexual orientation just by being yourself. Everyone has different characteristics and different personalities that there is no set way to act for each gender. Many girls like to participate in "male" sports such as football and baseball. They have been labeled as male activities but who is to say that its strictly a mans game. Along with dance and ballet, many believe that is a women's sport. Their shouldn't be labels on activities, actions, or characteristics that an individual has. We choose our gender by being ourselves and we choose our sexual orientation by being ourselves. There are a lot of people that do conform to the stereotype feeling like they have to be and act a certain way but that is their choice..
