WP Journo : What is the best WordPress permalink structure for SEO?

Mazhar, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately this post is a bit dated. Since WordPress 3.3, the performance issue with having /%postname%/ permalinks has been fixed. I now recommend that format for many cases, though sites that publish lots of content or want to get in to Google News should take a different approach. I highly recommend Joost de Valk's post and .htaccess redirects generator for those who want to switch to the /%postname%/ format: http://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-struc...

WP Journo : Displaying custom post types with the same custom taxonomy value

Did you change the line above too? If you want to order by date, 'orderby' => 'menu_order' should actually be orderby' => 'date'. Then you should be able to order asc or desc based on publication date.

WP Journo : Is media consumption killing your production?

Jenna, thanks for the comment. I've thought about using Readability and also tried Read It Later for awhile. The problem is I'm a bit of a digital hoarder so I collect things I find online that I'll never end up reading...but I love collecting and could spend all day doing it!

WP Journo : How to display subpages of a WordPress page with their custom meta

Hi Lucio, that is a solution that is beyond the method in this post and also requires more info about how you would like the portfolio pieces to display. I'd recommend posting very detailed info over on http://wpquestions.com/ to have someone write you code to work with your theme.

WP Journo : How to style the WordPress TinyMCE WYSIWYG visual editor

The CSS you're looking for in the visual editor is: html .mceContentBody { color: gray; background: black; } At least, this is what would match the website you linked to. I don't think it's easy because I don't think most people want to read let alone write with gray on black text :)

WP Journo : 6 presidential candidates use WordPress as their CMS

Hi Mark, As you note in your post, it's a pretty common method of hardening WordPress to install in an unusual directory, hide the meta generator tag, etc. Conversely, I find it more interesting the other candidates haven't taken every precaution they could, given how I'm sure certain groups would love to take down or hack Republican candidate websites...

Spencer, glad you found this helpful. To answer your first question, Brett Terpstra has posted an excellent tutorial and sample about this: http://brettterpstra.com/adding-a-tinymce-button/ I should also write a post soon about a method I've used to add buttons to the HTML editor, for those who don't use the visual editor. I think you could also use the method Brett writes about to add an upload/insert button to the visual editor area.

Cotton Tree Herald : Sanity Restored? I Hope So.

Nice post! I didn't originally realize you were traveling all the way to the D.C. rally. I hope the rally does have an impact somehow. "Perhaps they will realize that moderates are constituents, too, and will finally demonstrate the leadership this nation deserves." You couldn't have put this better.

WP Journo : For college newspapers, the importance of platform is often overrated

Yes, you're dead on Hanna! It can be a struggle getting strictly developer students to see the benefit of building solutions for journalism, especially their school newspaper. But it seems kind of silly not to either be teaching j-students more about the technical side of things while also inviting opportunities for other disciplines to get involved and share their expertise.
