The Blazing Center : What The Prosperity Teachers Get Right

Yeah I would say that our motivation is many times based in what we will get. But isn't it we have been blessed therefore we give. Yeah we are still going to receive more blessings but the blessing that drives us is Jesus and what has been given. I am not disagreeing with you, I am merely trying to emphasis the point that we give because we have been blessed, not only because we will be blessed. If our motivation is based 'what we will get' but what we 'have been given'. Subtil difference, yet needed I think. Does that make sense...?

Josh Cousineau | The Blog : A Couple Videos

Dan, I am guessing you are talking about the first video by Tim Keller. I would say yes it does give us instructions to live by, but within the OT it points us towards the only one who can and has lived this way. If we view the Bible as a mere guide book then we can only have one of two reactions: 1) Pride - because we are 'good' or 2) Depression - because we can't possibly live up to it. Josh Otte, a fellow pastor has a great article on the difference of looking at the Bible as a 'how to' vs looking at what Jesus has done. It is looking at the difference between WWJD and WHasJD - http://windhambaptist.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/ww... I would recommend reading through it. I think we agree on this Dan, but I wanted to expound on why I posted this video on here. Thanks for commenting! Let me know your thoughts. ~Josh

To be honest I have not read much C.S. Lewis, although just about everyone I read has read him. I plan to read him at some point. The problem there is sooo much good stuff to read out there.

Josh Cousineau | The Blog : Teaching Topics?

Here are a couple from Facebook - 1. FROM PETER HASBROUCK - Who is Jesus? Why should we believe the Bible? One could obviously do lengthy series on these two topics, but these are issues that teens should be reminded of briefly but regularly. Apologetics issues revolve largely around these two concerns (once the existence of God is considered, of course), so students would then be strengthened in their beliefs 2. I thnk teens need to hear how to address peer pressure in a Godly manner. Too many of our Christian teens are seen as geeks and whimps becuase they aren't bold in their opposition to the world. 3. Topic: Self-esteem and how it relates to God. Shutting down the critical voice.

This has always been a tough one. Do a sermon on it almost always comes across the wrong way, in my experience. What is really needed is relationship between an elder woman and a younger woman, and that then is just one of the many topics covered (titus 2). With that said it surly should not be something a preacher is to shy away from. We need a good view of biblical manhood and womanhood.

Nice, very good one Sarah. Many times I would think that our 'personal' view of God and His character are skewed because of our view of our father, or different people in our lives, or even how 'media' has portrayed God. Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to post in a week with the complete list from everyone

Thanks Dan. It does seem that there are certain days that have more time to get through a bunch of books, Friday am for me! Also I have been working on reading one chapter at a time. One of my problems is that I have about 15 books going at any given time, either from school work, sermon prep, or other study. Many times I would read 2-3 pages then jump into another book, problem is I never seemed to get anywhere. Now I am making sure I crank out a chapter at a time, has seemed to help. Dan how many books would you say you read a year?

From you comment above: If every church would for one Sunday (this is not forsaking the assembling of ourselves) do something other than meet in the building this would promote missional church. How would you foresee a youth ministry doing this? Would there be a "plan" or would it be a "free for all"? Would there be some direction, or would it have a loose feeling? I love the concept, just wondering 'how' this would look in reality.

Hey man, not 100% sure I follow your question. Can you re-explain what you mean by this. If your talking about the 5 I have listed that is just from Ladds New Testament Theology, so these are just from him. Also he is only addressing the interplay between the Church (God's called out people) and the Kingdom of God.
