1001 Noisy Cameras : New Cameras of 2013 Reference page updated (Surprise: Fuji has half of the compacts with RAW!)

@Editor, maybe late, but Nikon P330 is a 1/1.7", unlike the P310 that was 1/2.3".

1001 Noisy Cameras : Sony NEX-5n DxoMark RAW sensor results are out

Sony statement at A55 release time was that the pellicle mirror would divert some 30% light to the AF sensor. That difference can be seen between NEX-5N and A35. Now, NEX-5N and A77 are using very different sensors, not sure comparison is that valid...

1001 Noisy Cameras : Nikon announces its new mirrorless system

I agree with ed regarding the name issue. Problem is "1" is a common numeral in most languages and in its spoken differently in each of them. So they cannot trademark it. Will it be the "ichi" system, or the "one", "uno", "ein", "l'une", "unum", "um"...

1001 Noisy Cameras : New Hogan rumors on Nikon mirrorless launch

Important to differentiate of a faux Tokina lens... :-p I would be amazed if Nikon actually launches three cameras the same month... I'm betting we will only see the D400 and the mirrorless (and that they will likely pitch the D400 as 'D700 replacement") :-O

1001 Noisy Cameras : Which mount will get cancelled first? (poll)

I also voted for regular old 4/3, the kind that has only seen one camera released in 2010 and I'm guessing zip, nil, zero, nada, 0x0000 on 2011. My bet for the next casualty is definetely Ricoh GXR. With Pentax under Ricoh banner there's no need to avoid a real, full capable system. @Ranger 9, The way phones are going, I see no way of stacking interchangable lens mount, AA filter, IR blocker, sensor, PCB, LCD (or AMOLED, your choice) and/or battery in a ~8mm case so popular these days. PS: Few year ago I had a Samsung Ultra II dumbphone, biggest merit being 5.9mm thick. It was quite uncomfortable to hold when talking. I'm not clear going thinner than current 8-9mm is really that smart.

1001 Noisy Cameras : Pentax Q system hands-on report by DC Watch Impress

Hey, bananacam, I'm pretty sure there is a bunch of consumers that actually wanted a compact sized iLC. You know, deep inside they envy photogs with those huge 600mm f/4 on monopods and handhelds 200-400mm f/4 (and even the smallish 24-70mm and 70-200mm f2.8) and wanted part of it, at least the part of being able to swap the lenses. Now, being able to use primes should give Q-system an advantage over zoom compacts. Only sad detail is Pentax outsourced something with mostly primes lenses that are so toyish that they actually had to put Toy in its name, most likely due to legal reasons. They should create actual real wide and tele primes to reap the most of the system. A very fast zoom (f/2) might not hurt either... PS: I firmly believe RiceHigh was not included in the focus group research for this product.

1001 Noisy Cameras : Pentax Q compact system with five lenses

Well, I would have loved to peek thru a hole and see the market research (specially the focus group review and selection) for this product. There must be lots of those focus groups saying they prefer a smaller iLC to a better IQ iLC, i.e., hordes of consumers versus the small groups of photographers. It is clear to me that Pentax wants to target those consumers, which happen to value this camera very much, hence the price. All in all, I predict the Pentax Q will sell way better (in units and dollars) than Sigma SD1. ;)

I will stick out my neck and say, without doing any actual math, that the 1/2.3" 12MP Bayer sensor is diffraction limited with all the current lens selection, with the probable exception of the 8.5mm f/1.9 prime. So, a priori, I would say it cannot resolve as much as an 4/3 or APS-C sensor.

1001 Noisy Cameras : New Leica V-Lux 30 superzoom channels the Panasonic TZ20/ZS10

I'm compelled to suggest how red dots are made: It actually involves using mythical 600mm silicon wafers for 14nm process with 3D gate features (and extremely low leakage, of course); each of them contributes a single dot from an optimum location and the 'scrap' is then used to manufacture Hassie 200MP sensors... Also involved some carbon nanotubes for strength and vapor deposition method to paint red, using an exotic, non-radioactive, transuranian pseudometal just because doing it with iron is too cheap *<8-)

1001 Noisy Cameras : Sony Alpha A850 officially discontinued

I'd say that double-dip recession scare is still high on these companies. All those bail-outs to European countries with debt problems must be heavily influencing those decision triggers. What I do believe is that if either C or N moves forward in releasing a product, the other will (must) follow with it's product (to save face) and I'm guessing that there is profitable room for one, but not for two. Hence, stalemate. ;_;

Yeah, some weird relativistic effects driving prices... Sadly, the price trend makes me believe that neither Canon nor Nikon will launch new FF compact bodies this year. It is not that they don't have technically viable designs that can be mass produced, it's just that they aren't economically viable. :(

First interchangeable lens camera for fixed lens camera users: E-PL2 or GF2 with 14-42kit lens. First M43rds camera for DSLR users: Don't bother, stay in your current system, UNLESS you are replacing a fixed lens camera (Hint: get the pancake kit). First M43rds coming from film SLRs: For those still out there, get an APS-C model with kit-lens within your system. In case you must have a m4/3, E-PL2 or GF2 with 14-42kit lens.
