It's incredibly common for MPs to disagree with some of their Party's policies. As long as they are clear about that then it really isn't a problem. Look at Norman Lamb, opposing a 2nd referendum, for example.

Zac made a promise that was probably a mistake in that fulfilling it undermined the cause of fighting Heathrow expansion. Nevertheless he was right to stand by the promise he had made. But there's absolutely no reason he should do it again. Far better to fight against a bad policy from within his party.

He was incredibly clear when he stood last year that he remained completely opposed to Heathrow expansion. No ifs, no buts. He was selected and supported by a local Conservative Party that is completely opposed to Heathrow expansion.

I genuinely find it hard to believe that you dont know that.

You must know that's not true. He remains implacably opposed to Heathrow expansion - and it's a cause for which he's done a phenomenal amount of work.

Re-read the third paragraph. Mark specifically explains that there are many other important issues, but that those have been extensively discussed and the purpose of his three articles this week is to address the issues with the machine.

There's no pretence that the only problem was the process. Just an acceptance and belief that the process matters and we won't be in a position to sell the better policies we'll definitely need unless it is fixed.

In 2010 there were 12 Conservative candidates fighting the same seat for the third time in a row. 11 of them won. Consistency and building up achievements and name recognition is a good thing.

Greg Smith is excellent, but if I lived in Ealing Central and Acton I'd vote for Joy Morrissey. She's local, an incredibly hard worker and very good on the doorstep. Plus she'd be a superb MP.

Okay. Syed would be a fantastic MP, but not clear from the article that he actually expressed an interest.

Have you heard something specific. I'd assumed that, while he was interested in a seat for 2020, he feels he has a job to do until 2019 in Brussels.

If he wanted to help then the obvious idea would be to put him to work in Southern/Metropolitan, Remain-voting constituencies. I'd be very happy for him to do so if CTF's polling showed it would be helpful.

Binding pendulum arbitration would be great:

- No strikes
- a reasonable alternative for workers who feel they have been wronged
- a system that actually encourages unions to be more reasonable.
