Today, the terms communism, socialism, et al, have little clear meaning to most people, Americans or otherwise. The generic term, collectivism, subsumes all of these variants of the fundamental idea of collectivism.

No matter what the variant, there are 3 fundamental tenets which are common to all. First is the negation of individual rights. Second is that truth is whatever benefits the collective at the moment hence, in the collectivist frame of reference, ‘truth’ can be one thing today and the opposite tomorrow so long as it advances the agenda of the collective. Third is the end justifies the means.

Despite any propaganda or rhetoric put forward by a collectivist, it inevitably has some authoritarian entity, the government, making the decision by which everyone subject to its force complies. And if you listen, it is always for “the greater good”, to “good of society”, “the will of the people”, etc.

The colleges need not be closed, only to be taken from government control to institutions which MUST participate in a competitive environment for their funds and students. Once they become competitors in a free market, tenure goes away. It becomes unaffordable.

Today’s public education system is a testament to Karl Marx foresight when he identified “Free education for all children in public schools” as one of his ten steps to convert any society to communism. Indoctrinate the new generation with the “proper” knowledge determined by the government (public schools) and you have the nation enslaved.
