make it 3! Since when did she or Obama care about law anyway? One need only consult the 10th amendment to confirm the bill is unconstitutional.

Since there is no way they cut anything to pay for this, this is effectively a tax on the rest of us. That's about $10 for every person in the state. Thanks MEGA!!!!

WOODTV.com : 9,000 new and retained jobs for Mich | WOOD TV8

It baffles me that these people can take millions of dollars, dump it into a pet project, and claim that they have created/saved a certain number of jobs. That money had to come from somewhere, and if it "created/saved" a job in one place, then logically it must have destroyed/lost a job someplace else. Just because those lost jobs are spread over the rest of the economy doesn't mean they aren't there, they are just less visible. Government cannot create jobs, because government does not produce anything. Reminds me of how Reagan described government involvement in the economy: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

WOODTV.com : Black blogs: \'gay-bashing\' Hope College | WOOD TV8

Here is a novel idea..... How about people get to do whatever they want, so long as it doesn't harm others? Running other peoples' lives, telling them what to do always a horrible idea. First, it always has the opposite effect that you intend. Second, each individual knows what is best for one and only one person, and that person is himself/herself. Secondly, Black is just as guilty of trying to enforce his views on others, even though he doesn't realize it and will fiercely deny it. In his blog he compares our area to the 1970's, and seems to think that just because our area has a different overall viewpoint, that we must just have "never openly discussed gay rights before". He is unable to see the possibility that many people (even in those big, important cities (note sarcasm)) think his views are overrepresented in today's culture.

"In still more bad news, the report starkly warned that a new long-term care insurance plan included in the legislation could "face a significant risk of failure" because it would attract people in poor health, leading to higher and higher premiums, and eventually triggering an "insurance death spiral."" Duh, we saw this a couple years ago when it was called Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

JoeysDad, I completely agree. There is clearly no constitutionality for this. And I'm sure that the government will treat all companies equally, no matter the political leanings of the employees.... I guess the only question I have now is: Does the government break up these huge companies before or after we bail them out?

How ironic that our government is now suddenly concerned about transparency. 401k fees are tiny in comparison to the fees that the government takes, everything from cell phone plans to real estate transactions. How about some transparency in those fees?

WOODTV.com : House passes anti-texting/driving bill | WOOD TV8

They have no way of knowing, but it really doesn't matter. This is a symbolic vote that does nothing. It is a vote to distract everyone from the crippling unemployment and staggering state defecits. It is a vote to rally people (who doesn't hate crazy drivers) and make everyone feel that the politicians are actually doing something worthwhile, which of course they are not. They may as well have passed a vote saying that fuzzy puppies are cute. The law will save no lives. Anyone who thought it was a good idea to text while driving before will continue to do so, they will now just have an eye in the rear-view mirror looking for police cars, which will further distract from what is in front of them. Plato said it best: "Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws."

WOODTV.com : Senate opens health care debate

Maybe its just me, but I thought the founders of this country set up a LIMITED federal government so that there wouldn't be a question about garbage like this. All of the bills currently under consideration are clearly in violation of the 10th ammendment, but I'm sure no congressmen have actually read that either. Besides, does anyone actually think that the federal government will come in and reduce costs? Is there a precedent for that? Here is what will happen. They will pass something small, like the initial social security, which will grow into a monster over time. Just like in the housing sector, private companies will be slowly replaced by ONLY one government plan, which will kill the little innovation and competition that remains. Meanwhile, trial lawyers will continue to suck increasing amounts of money from the system. If God would concede me His omnipotence for 24 hours, you would see how many changes I would make in the world. But if He gave me His wisdom too, I would leave things as they are. — J.M.L.
WOODTV.com : 3 inmates forgotten, shackled for hours | WOOD TV8

"NEARLY three hours" -- that's funny. It wasn't even three hours. Actually, from the times given, it was more like two hours and 15 minutes, so it wasn't even "nearly" three hours. I bet they were completely terrified, being away from guards and other inmates for all that time. They are probably much happier now that they are back in prison. </sarcasm> And then they go on to say that the inmates were "forgotten".....

WOODTV.com : WOOD TV8 | Kids health care program cuts ER visits

Dandrb and creosote apparently haven't actually read the article. The article states that the program was a partnership between "Priority Health, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, Cherry Street Health Services and others". THOSE ARE NOT GOVERNMENT AGENCIES!!! What the article does say is that part of the deal was for priority to increase Medicaid payments to doctors......most likely because Medicaid doesnt reimburse doctors enough. Non-profit agencies intervening in health care is fine and to be applauded. Government interference is not. There is nothing stopping all of you who want government health care from donating your money to forming a large non-profit group to provide people with health insurance. For that matter, if its all such a great idea, you could also donate your money to non-profit cash-for-clunkers programs, bank bailouts, government housing, etc...

He has to leave the economy alone. Since he (or any government) must tax or borrow (which is future tax) any money he spends, in order to "perform surgery" on the economy, he must first injure it by taxing it. In the end, the economy will be worse off than it would have been without the surgery. I truly cannot understand how that is so hard for people to grasp. If government is writing you a check, they had to get it from somewhere!!!!!
