The deal has not restored sovereignty over our EEZ, it has merged it with the EU, and they the senior partner within fisheries.

The Government will finish off what Edward Heath started, surrender our fishing soverignty to be merged with the EU, and the EU the senior partner.

it is as N G below states about sovereignty. Because as a past EU member, we are being treated as no other, we are not in control, we are not following international law
so where has it gone terribly wrong. On 3 November, an article I wrote “French play high-stakes poker in the fishing war” I stated “As negotiations near a conclusion, this was the question Andrew Marr asked the French Europe Minister Clement Beaune on his Sunday show.
The reply was unusual. M Beaune said fisheries are important to both of us, but let us respect both interests. Let us find a solution. Look at the big picture: if there is no deal there is no access to EU market for the UK. Leaving the EU is about sovereignty, but for a trade agreement and beyond you have to combine two sovereignties, you have to respect both If you want access to a common market you have to respect the rules of this market both ways.
I should have realised there and then what was coming -two sovereignties coming together is a merger - that is what we have got, with the EU the dominate partner..

i used to live near Stonehaven, very enjoyable. David, i am not a fisherman, although i was in Iceland during last cod war. I was a fishing gear designer and manufacturer, and worked on board vessels around the world. What is so annoying is that the difficulties were known 4 .5 years ago, why leave it to the end.

yes I would.
i would say we are going to merge sovereignty, rather than establish it.

As far as fishing goes, we have the repeat of Edward Heath, our Nations Exclusive Economic
Zone has been laid on the alter and sacrificed again. It has torn the Conservative Party apart for decades. it will do so again. The UK expects to go global, so th first act is to give way our maritime rights.

We have left the EU, so the EEZ of 200 nautical miles or median line zone is back in UK control, which the UK is now responsible for under international law, and how to police that is clearly laid out-
Article 73 of UNCLOS3
Enforcement of laws and regulations of the coastal State
1. The coastal State may, in the exercise of its sovereign rights to
explore, exploit, conserve and manage the living resources in the exclusive
economic zone, take such measures, including boarding, inspection, arrest
and judicial proceedings, as may be necessary to ensure compliance with the
laws and regulations adopted by it in conformity with this Convention.
what is the problem Mr. Ellwood?

I have no idea, if oil, gas etc had been included doubt if we would have joined

The word living is used because it refers to anything living within our UK EEZ, so covers fish, shellfish etc and not the "dead" marine resource, such as oil, gas and minerals
