Comparing .223 vs .308 is kinda apples to orangutans. If I was bugging out on foot the .308 is almost out of feasibility for me. The ammo is so dang heavy that your not gonna be able to carry much of it. The .308 AR would be great for defending a bug out location, so having one stored away at your plan B would not be a bad idea.

Both the .223 and .308 would make fine anti-personal sniping weapons out to 300 yards.

I always liked the idea of a "bug in" more than "bug out". We try to keep cold packs in the deep freezer just in case of a power outage. They can be tossed into a cooler or left in the freezer to help keep stuff ice cold. You can also throw some blankets over the freezer and put a emergency blanket on top of that to keep it insulated longer.

My only problem with MRE type meals is the NEED water to rehydrate. No water, no consumable food. So from my perspective canned is the way to go if you have little space. Now just to learn how to store water for the long haul.

Looks like a cool idea. I'd buy one if you could somehow unscrew the ball to access the prize inside. That way you could add and swap gear for future use.

I agree with a lot of the people below about how a tent is better. Personally I just cant find a light, camo, pop-up tent that could go into a B.O.B. and thats where a tarp excels.

It would be great if you could compare a Yeti to a "regular" cooler of equal size. One thing Yetis' might do well with is dry ice. Talk about cold for days!

Agreed. Why pay $1300 for a gun thats just as dependable as a Glock or M&P? I'm sure its a wonderful gun, but not for prepping.

Most of the newer Bio safes are much improved. Not to mention the have key backups. YMMV

This safe sounds promising, but personally I prefer a biometric gun safe. They offer instant access to whats inside with no code to remember. But that's just me.

Also you mentioned using this safe in a bug-out vehicle; have you ever considered writing an article about what a bug-out vehicle should contain?

I've been known to use chafing dish candles in the past. The gel versions can last for several hours and provide a lot of heat in a tent if properly used. Not to mention you can get them at the Dollar Tree.

As others have said the 12ga is a valuable tool for defense. However everything is relevant in a SHTF situation. If I was bugging out Id want a rifle, if I was was bugging in a shotgun would be useful.
