Oh Mallory, Nicole, Nikki, Marco and everyone who made this place what it has been, writers and commenters all - thank you, so so much, from the bottom of my heart. I'm at my desk trying not to tear up because I've been here from the beginning and seen this grow into the amazing, unique space and community it has become, and it has been a daily joy even when there have been times where I've been more of an observer than a true member of the group. To echo Mallory I have loved you all and I am excited to see where everyone goes next, and I hope we can keep this beautiful community going and growing and changing in new, exciting, unforeseen ways. I was shaking and on the verge of tears by the time I finished it. That dude fucked with her head so completely and comprehensively it's astounding, and it breaks my heart to think about how every woman is to some degree conditioned to accept and believe in the gaslighting bullshit that abusive men pull. She blames herself so thoroughly for his bad choices that she's willing to give up her own will and sense of self and needs and desires out of guilt. No one ever, ever deserves to be manipulated into that kind of self-degrading submission and defeat. My skin was crawling reading about how sex with him feels awful to her, but he apparently browbeats her into it anyway. Yet somehow all of this is still the result of HER "terrible mistake". And the awful truth about this type of emotional manipulation and abuse is that it can happen to anyone, especially women who are taught to ALWAYS put everyone else's (especially their man's) needs/wants before their own. I hope she gets out as soon as possible and is able to let go of her guilt and cut him out of her life completely - and I hope that man never traps anyone else into a relationship with him until he can unlearn being such an abusive shitlord (if that's even possible).
I know it may be a tad petty, but part of me hopes that guy's wife is cheating on him 24/7 and having the best sex of her life while he's congratulating himself for doing laundry.
