The strangest thing is; this is what I would expect from their conservative opponents. I can understand what they are trying to do, but just believe the Government is going about it the wrong way. I’m all in favour of the protection of children, but there are better ways. I see that you have a blog, if you could spread the word and link back to my post that would help the cause.

I am going to have to agree with Sean on this one. This convention is cheap compared to most. In comparison to the last thing I went to, which was work related and also sponsored. It cost around $1,700 for 3 days (and that was the early bird price and is not including flights and accommodation). Conferences / conventions are not the cheapest things to run and without grants and sponsorship most would not go ahead. Unlike other events like the “Parliament of the World's Religions” the “Global Atheist Convention” is not sponsored or government funded.

I think a "unity convention" like this would be a great idea for the United States. Coming from Australia, I am privileged that I will be able to attend "The Rise Of Atheism | 2010 Global Atheist Convention" [http://jin-ohchoi.id.au/blog/2009/12/the-rise-of-... and http://www.atheistconvention.org.au/] in Melbourne, Australia this year. But follow the sentiments of Godless Girl that for many “However, it's really a money/vacation time issue for me”.

Thanks for your comment, in hindsight. I probably should have just left it with the two options. No, I am an Atheist. Yes, I believe in a god. But I wanted to give a middle ground for those who are a bit unsure. Agnostic, was probably the wrong choice of word to use.
