There's a registry where you can enter the home address for your cell phone (which would have helped in this case). Of course, you have to update it when you move. I'll try to find it and post. This link is to register your phone to receive emergency notifications: http://www.rpin.org/rpinweb/Subscriber/Register.a... I'll keep looking for the one where you can enter an address associated with a cell number. I do not know of an app that will notify 911 of your location while away from home, but I'm thinking it's because current technology isn't up to the task. Even while using the "find me" feature on some apps, satellites still place me about a block away from where I am.

Throughout time, older generations have feared the changes that younger generations find innovative. Pick anything that's different now from ten years ago, and you'll find fewer people who think the world is now coming to an end because of the change as people who embrace the change. In general, things are improving. Nutrition is better, inflation-adjusted food costs are lower, safe water is more accessible, babies die less frequently, life expectancy has more than doubled, illiteracy rates are down, child labor is reduced, etc., etc. Keep your knees flexed and roll with it, progress is a one-way street.

I think that's a great idea for most people actually - keeping a low online profile. I can't do that because I'm a business owner, but I would if I could. Instead, I remember that everything I post online could be used in a news headline someday. Any recruiter worth her salt would never admit to making a hiring decision based on the results of an online search, but you're kidding yourself if you think Google searches by recruiters don't happen every single day. Things don't happen like they used to, the world evolves over time. Part of surviving the hiring process is about knowing what actually occurs and taking steps to deal with it, not pretending it doesn't exist simply because it "shouldn't".

Please tell me you're kidding. You've heard of search engines, right? One enters a first and last name, in quotes, and a ranked list is produced. Unless these women are named Jane and Sue Doe, they'll come up as associated with this crime on the first or second page. The whole process takes 30 seconds. I'm a former corporate recruiter, I absolutely ran a Google check of all candidates I was even considering interviewing for a position. And you can be darn sure I would run a Google check on anyone I was considering dating.
