Jennifer Moody : Moody: Mission accomplished, sort of

That is exactly how working at home goes! I had a chance to sit and do some work on my laptop in a coffee shop and was AMAZED at how much more productive I was. What do you know, maybe I'm not total slacker of a writer after all...maybe I'm just a teeny bit distracted.

Oh, me too! I think some level of psychic ability would be helpful too--to allow you to hear from inside their heads, the things they are NOT saying out loud.

Weird as it is, I packed a pair of tweezers from my mom's bathroom drawer when I left for college, conveniently "forgetting" to ask if she minded, and have never given them back. They work better than any other tweezers I have ever tried.

Oh, I love raw dough too. Frosting straight from the can is a horrible guilty pleasure as well. And cheese. Any kind of cheese. No crackers or anything else necessary to accompany it.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Summertime, when the livin' is easy

Once fall has actually begun, I love it. Love wearing sweaters and jeans and boots, love the crisp mornings, love the crunching leaves, love giving in to my urge to bake and drink hot tea rather than not touching my oven with a 10-foot-pole. However, when it comes to accepting that the beginning of fall means the end of summer, I'm totally in the same camp as you. I do NOT want summer to end. I do NOT want to jump back into the routine of soccer and school mornings and this year dropping two different kids off at two different schools. I'm totally there in slacker mom club with you. I think the last time my kids had a bath was three days ago...when my parents were the ones babysitting them.

I completely forgot about the meteor shower this year, just like I have completely forgotten about it the last two or three years in row, even though I think my kids would LOVE to see shooting stars, and even though I always watched it when I was younger. Maybe next year.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: These were a few of my favorite things

My mom kept a lot of my childhood toys, even when it had been years since I played with them, and I'm SO glad she did. I totally get a kick out of watching my girls play with them, including a whole family of 1980s Barbie dolls with big hair and neon clothes. My sister's Strawberry Shortcake dollhouse is a big hit with the little ones too.

Good for you! I haven't even considered my pineapple consumption. And what dairy do you buy from in Crabtree? And how much does the milk cost? Sometimes, the higher cost of local keeps me from it, much as I would like to.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Top of the pectin order

I've heard a couple different things: that it prevents the fruit from browning--like if you toss apple slices with lemon juice. Not such a big deal. I've also heard that lemon juice in canning adjusts the acidity of the recipe, thereby making it safe to preserve without pressure canning. Certain foods (most fruits) are acid enough to kill germs on their own and can be preserved without pressure canning; others (most vegetables) are not. But if you're freezing something, not sitting it on a cupboard shelf, the low temp would kill the bacteria, so why call for it? I really don't know.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Small miracles II (strawberry-flavored)

Amazing! The miracle of lemons and corn syrup! It's not quite the loaves and fishes, but it'll do. As I write this I've got two batches of jam done. I had planned to make two more, and I thought I had everything I needed, but I just realized I only have enough sugar for one more. I was thinking I was going to have to run to the store...but maybe somehow some will miraculously show up in the back of my cupboard somewhere? Or, maybe I'll just stop at the store later tonight :)

Is This Mike On? : An open letter to Taco Bell Guy

I don't think there is anything wrong with teaching our children that getting an education is the key to making it in a career field where they are NOT humiliated, insulted and spit upon for their entire career. There is value in any kind of work, and it's better than living off the government. But I don't think most anyone--even the Taco Bell Guy--would argue that it's something that would be enjoyable to spend 40 years of your life doing every day.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Housework, Mother's Day and other random moments

"Funnier thing: I don’t mind. I didn’t lose who I was, exactly, but in becoming a mother, I did become someone new. And I truly do not miss that other person." Absolutely! I was just thinking today about how if I could go back in time and live my 20s over again, I wouldn't do it. I'm happier, more balanced, saner today than I was then, even with three little ones driving me to distraction all the time!

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Best-laid schemes of mice and moms

I'm feeling that way, schedule-wise, already, and I only have one kiddo who is involved in activities yet. This Saturday we're dashing from one activity to another all day, and the following Saturday Mom and Dad are supposed to be at a planning meeting at church all morning, which means we need someone to watch the kids, except that Beth is invited to a birthday party mid-morning, and then has soccer in the afternoon, and the babysitter we usually hire doesn't drive yet, and how are we going to manage all that? We'll get it figured out, I'm sure, but it certainly does make this difficult sometimes.
