World In Conversation : Voices From The Classroom

I feel that what the soldiers did was probably a little harsh. There could have been a different way to go about handling the situation. I am not trying t say that the people shouldn’t have gone unpunished. Steeling is wrong and they should be punished for it. But in America we have this thing called a justice system and that could have been a way for them to deal with this situation. They could have arrested the people that were stealing. We also do not know the whole situation. There may have been more to what was going on in that moment. The clip was only about a min or two long. The people that had there vehicle crushed may not have been as innocent as we are lead to believe that they are. A video like that could have more to it and it can be cut to show what they want you to see. Our government does it all of the time on the news you are shown only what they want you to see not what you should actually see. In my mind that is really wrong we as people should want to see the full story and nothing less. We need to be able to form our own opinions. We need full information. The only people in this case that know the full information are the people that were being filmed in this video. And with every thing that happens over there with the bombs and shootings there has to be caution taken and points proven so that they learn not to mess with us. I know it is a harsh stand point but we do not know the whole story. So maybe the right thing was done and maybe the wrong thing was done I cant honestly say. it would be nice if it was black and whit and we could say that that was wrong but this video is not black and white. It is like the world we live in. there are gray areas. And these gray areas make it hard to decide what is right and what is wrong. That makes life interesting though. If life was black and white it would be boring and uneventful and arguments would be pointless. With that gray area people can form opinions that involve two or more ideas not just one. I really like to be able to think on my own and mix ideas and be able to say there is more to a story then what you see. Lets just hope that what we saw in the videos had a good reason and there was more to it then what we saw. Other then that I don’t know what it is that we should think.

First off I would like to say how could you ask such a question. When I comes down to what Sandusky no matter what race or skin color you have it is still wrong. In our world that we live in today it is not okay to take advantage of minors. That is why we have the age of consent laws. I can not believe anyone has the mind to ask if it matters if race would change anything about this. The world we live in today is way to caught up on race. They need to look past that and see the situation for what it is not would race change how we view this. I really hate that question. I do not judge people by there race I judge them by there actions and I see Sandusky as a sick man. Granted this has to still go to trial and an official verdict must be reached but the evidence seems to be pretty clear when there is at least eight victims. I feel that if you were to go to any country and any culture and asked the question about an adult making sexual advances towards children they would all agree that it is morally and mentally wrong. I also feel that they would take immediate action against this and try to put a stop to it. We can not even let this question of the severity of races be herd by the public that would only give the media more of an open door to twit the story how ever they want. They had no problem doing that with out this fuel to add to the fire. I feel that with time that this chain of events will be resolved at some time in the near future. That will also stop all the questions and thoughts about would race change anything or should Joe Pa have done anything different. The truth is we will never know the scandal may go a lot deeper then we think or it could be a lot less sever. Most likely if any thing it will be more sever then we know. But if you were not there you will never know. every thing set aside what went on was wrong and un ethical no matter who you are. The race and the ethnicity of a person doesn’t matter. All that matters is the cold hard facts about what happened and hopefully they will come out and the right people will be punished for what they did. I feel the whole Penn State community will all feel relieved when justice is served. I know I will I can not wait for all of this to be behind us and I can focus on my school work again.

I feel that social media helps a lot with the spreading ideas. All you have to do is post something on there and anyone can see it. Think about it for most people social networking is a place to express ideas and feelings for everyone to see. Another fact is that most people on say Facebook have close to 500 friends at a minimum. There are countless people that have numbers in the thousands. All updated on what you are doing with the fast click of a button. Twitter is the same way most people have a lot of followers and post everything. Whether it is them saying they are going to the bathroom or some thing that we actually care about. Social networking got a lot worse when it became so easy to up date your status from your phone or tablet device. Theses new advances made it so easy for people to make twenty or thirsty posts a day. This aids the fact that the word of a riot or gathering can come about so quickly. I also feel that you can not completely blame this all on social networking. The riots that have occurred in the past day were not the first riots in the history of time. The word of mouth and signs and good old fashion yelling are still probably the best ways to gather people. It invokes curiosity. I live in the dorms and I could here the people down town from my window and I was confused at first but then I asked about it and soon found out how dumb people actually are. I also feel that the main reason for the riots are the media and the way the school handled this situation is why the people rioted. There should have been a press conference to explain what is going on the students should be treated like adults. The university treated the students like children which caused a childish reaction ultimately making the situation worse. I would like to close this by saying that I feel if you were one of the idiots that rioted you are a disgrace and should really think about what you stand for and how you want to be thought of and how your actions make the rest of the student body look. Even Joe Pa the man you were rioting for said go study or do something academic. Yet you destroyed things. Thank you for being ignorant and STUPID. I wish you all well when life doesn’t go well in the work place when you get a job and you pull shit like this and get fired. We will see how that goes. I know I will be fine because I can handle my emotions in a way that relates to my age.

In the society we live in the Mexicans do jobs that a lot of Americans wont. I feel that this is because in other countries there are not as many jobs to be had and people will do any thin they can to make money to support their families. Here in American we have a lot of different jobs that you could get. You may not always get them but they are there. Also people that are trying to get the good jobs a lot of times refuse to do the back breaking labor jobs. Which in my opinion is wrong. A job is a job no matter what. That is what I feel the attitude that the Mexican immigrants have and they will do any job they can. There main goal is to support there families at any costs. More Americans need to have this attitude need to have that attitude. But I guess the two balance each other out because our society keeps moving forward. In my mind it is a little lopsided and there is a lot of room for improvement. Some day maybe every thing will work its way to being equal and fair. Till then Americans should try to do some of the jobs that the Mexican immigrants do so that they can have an appreciation for what they have and to help out our economy. We can not just depend on immigrants to do the jobs that Americans do not want. It is not fair and not good for our economy we need to be self supportive of our selves. I do admire the work that the immigrants do and am very grateful that they are here. I work along side of them at home when I am not at school. I do believe that they should have to pay some sort of taxes but that is a whole other story that can be discussed. And I feel it will be a long time before our government can figure out how they want to go about doing that. As of right now I feel that they just do not want to embrace the illegal work force. They don’t understand that with out them our work force will not work and things will just come to a stand still.

I will not try to disagree with the fact that the native Americans were present in the country that We call the United States of America before most of our ancestors ever were. But as time went on we had to move into our territory. If you as me they were kind of hogging all the land in the beginning. When the settlers came and developed colonies on the land they did the same things that the Indians did. That was developing colonies and settlements. After a while conflicts arose and treaties were made and land borders were made. This was to keep peace. After we colonized and formed a government we declared the land our country is on ours. I believe in the saying survival of the fittest. We gave the Indians citizen ship and they now have the same opportunities as you or I do. In some cases they have more but that is another argument for another day. The land this country is on was fought for by our ancestors. And if I remember correctly the Indians chose to fight on our side during the war of independence. Therefore making it the countries land that we buy and pay taxes on. By the Indians joining our country it gives up the right to call all of the land there land they have to compromise. With the expanding population and the growth of technology land has to keep being shrunk down to smaller and smaller amounts for individual people. We all suffer from this because it is expensive to buy and own property. It all comes down to hard work and determination in life. If you have that the sky is the limit. In my mind I can go as far as I want in the world I just have to work my way there and make the right decisions. In life I plan to star my way at the bottom and eventually own and run my own business just like my father does. I don’t expect it to be handed to me and I do expect people to take things from me that I don’t want them to such as the land. That was taken from the natives so long ago. That to me build character if u can preserver from it.

This question to me is a little disturbing. I don’t see how my race has anything to do with how I see the world. I don’t know what other people think about this but to me I don’t understand. Just like the whole stages of racism in my mind is stupid. The world is how you see it from your eyes. As I was growing up I was allowed to form my own opinions about anything. I was never discouraged or told what to think by my parents. If I wanted to hang out with people of a different race or different color skin my family couldn’t carless. As far as my race I guess I would consider my self Italian. A lot of my family speaks Italian and they brought me up with a lot of values and traditions of an Italian family. Because of how I was brought up I don’t discriminate or judge. I feel the world should maybe be a little more open minded as I am. The world would be a much better place if everyone could get along. And if they see each other as equals and not as different races then the world will be less racist. I feel that for this to happen we need to show that we are all equals. To prove this to some people wont be hard. The older generations will be the harder ones to convince. They grew up in times when the countries of the world were merging and now that we are merged we are moving toward a more open word. The newer generations are a little more open to the idea of different people with different backgrounds living around them. Before long the whole world will be integrated and we will all be one and there will be less and less of a difference between all of us. That will be the day when we all will be free. The ultimate freedom. There will be no racial slurs and no hated toward people because of skin color or native country. Until that day we have to deal with what we have and what we are dealt by the dealer of life. That is the best thing we can do live life to the fullest and love everyone for themselves.

I cant say I really fully understand the idea of white guilt. I am not a racist person I really don’t stereo type people. And when I am in situations and I am talking to a group of mixed race I say what I want to say. I never really think of racist things to say unless I am with a group of friends and it related to something they did or said. But the way I would say t would be in a funny joking type way. When I speak I always think about what I am going to say before I say it. That way I don’t offend anyone by what I say or get myself in to a situation that could be harmful for my self or others. I am the type of person that tries to avoid trouble. As we were talking in class the question came up to the black and brown community if they screw with people some times. I have had that happen to me but I am smart enough to realize this and at that point I may get into a situation where I can maybe feel white guilt because I will offend you and ask you what your deal is. I don’t like to be made fun of and I don’t like to be the but of a racist joke. Nobody does racism is no joke and nobody should be the victim of it and hopefully at some point in time there will be no racism in the world. That will put the end to white guilt black guilt and even brown guilt. That I feel is a goal that can be reached. It may take a while to achieve because there are a lot of people in the world that refuse to change and will take a lot of convincing. But I feel that if we all work together and show them what it is like to become a victim of racism they may change for the better. It is worth a shot the world needs to be a happy place for everyone

In my opinion I don’t think girls have to wear short skirts or super tight clothing to be attractive. I feel that they listen to the stereo type set forth by magazines. A lot of how women dress and act are based off of magazines and the fashion industry. They say how to dress and what is “in”. To me as a guy I only listen to what I think I look good in. My opinion is really only what matters to me when I am shopping for clothes. A lot of times how I feel in the morning when I get up depicts what I wear during the day that I have in front of me. I could wear any thing from pants to shorts jeans to sweats I dress for comfort not fashion. I let my personality do the talking for me. I would rather someone talk to me because of my personality over how I look. Girls though are really concerned with how the fashion industry thinks they should look. To me a girl in a pair of jeans and sweat shirt is so beautiful. To me girls need to start dressing how ever they want. If they want to be comfortable they should dress that way. It really is a persons own opinion to how they dress and it should say that way. The world that we live in is free and we can wear what we want to wear when we want to wear it . My message to women of the world to day need to stand up and dress to impress themselves with comfort. I do and I love it and wouldn’t change it for any one. Its my choice and it should be there choice to. Impress people with your smile and that will take you way further then any piece of clothing ever will. The word is all about equality and they should take advantage of it. Don’t live in a stereo type and express your self. I feel that I should start a rally for women to wear comfy clothes. I feel that I would gain a strong following and that the women of the world would be able to appreciate the world more.

In my opinion I feel the US should not be as concerned with helping other countries as much as helping our own country. In our country now we have a very high unemployment rate. That doesn’t mean that our country is going to dive straight in to a poverty. But we need to start to try and make more jobs for the citizens of America. We need to stop sending business to other countries when we have the means and the man power to accomplish it. To help other countries we don’t need to give them hand outs. We need to teach them to keep there jobs localized in their own country. They should not send business to other countries all products should be made in there country if necessary buying raw materials from other countries is fine. Not all countries have access to the materials needed to make the goods. But most countries have the means to make it. In my mind the key to a successful country is making as many jobs for citizens of the country to work and to produce as much as possible in the country. The more a country produces in its own country will allow it to have higher revenues. A lot of the problems with debt in countries comes from import and export taxes. The more you import the more the government will tax it which drives the price up for imported goods. You may think it is cheaper to buy goods from other places but you are wrong. By the time things are taxed and marked up for sale you end up paying the same amount which is ridiculous. So for the Us to help other countries we need to just show them how to create jobs. They do not need hand outs or to be spoon feed. They need to be taught to fend for them selves. It goes back to the saying “You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day but teach a man to fish feed him for life.” To me that is the best option for our country to help nations in need. And who knows this theory may help our country too. Its all about benefiting the most people. And killing to birds with on stone is a great idea.

To start this response I feel I should start out by saying that idea of well fare was a good idea. But it has been taken to a major extreme now. I have herd first hand from people that I know that lost there jobs say that they make more on well fare then they did when they were employed. I was a little appalled by this. Before I came to Penn state I worked every day after high school. And in the summers I would work forty four hours a week. I worked in my families collision repair shop. I would fix cars and do building repairs. This was no easy job I was a on my feet from Five am till six thirty seven pm. When I would here stories of people that lost there jobs I was thankful I still had mine. But it started to bother me when I would here about how much they made from well fare. It was more then me which for an adult that had a decent job was not hard to do. It was even higher then what they made at there jobs. The only condition for them to collect the check was to actively be looking for work. Which if you actually look for work and get a job any kind of job is a good thing. But the way the system works someone just has to apply for a job. They could apply for something they don’t want to do and decline it or send an application into someplace they don’t even have a chance at being hired just to keep collecting a check to sit on there but. To me there is always a job to be had you just have to look to find it. People now a days sit on their high horse and refuse to get there hands dirty. You could always go to door to door and ask people if they need yard work done or anything fixed around there house. There are also seasonal jobs available that people over look. They say I am getting paid to do nothing and I enjoy not working. People need to stop being lazy and look for any job to support them selves at least until they can find a equivalent to the one they had. I just wish they could under stand this and see that money earned is the better way. You will be more respected. I just feel that well fare should only be given for a week or two. If you try hard enough you can find a job that will get you buy until the right job comes along. Stop being lazy America we are better then this. So get out there and try your very hardest to get some kind of job no matter what it is.

I feel to truly answer this question I need to state my whole opinion about race and backgrounds of people. The way my mind thinks about all of this is what does it really matter about what color you are or what shape your nose is. We are all born whit the features that we have and we should not change them. The only way I see changing your body is good is if you are over weight and unhealthy. And by saying this I feel that if you want to change that part about your self you should work hard and lose the weight by hard work not surgery. That being said as technology advances and we can communicate with more people from remote parts of the world we will see how much we all are really the same. It will help prove we are all mixed in our backgrounds and the term race developed from people this fake idea of what the idea person looks like and what everyone wants to look like. I often get a little angry in class I don’t like to judge people by their looks. And more often then most we are asked to just look at a picture and say what race we think they are. More technology will be able to show every one that they are all have a mix of different people from all around the world. I feel that with this proof, people may eventually stop this egotistical stupidity about there “race”. It really does not matter we are all people and we all have different backgrounds. Our bodies have different features to accommodate living in different climates. Our languages all came from one language at first. You can think about the different types of languages as different types of slang. They are not bad it just makes things different. Maybe some day with a super advanced technology we can see one thing that everyone has in common and stop the stupid arguing of oh hes black or hes green no wait there from Africa when they are actually from Russia. Then it will not even matter and we can all get along and live happily. I am all for technology it can put an end to a lot of controversy and end a lot of hatred. A lot of wars and crime are fought over disagreements that people have about race and beliefs. This is al really dumb cant we all just get along. If we all closed our eyes then what we look like would not matter because you could not see the difference. The only way you could tell then would be my hearing how they talked. You could eliminate that variable by making each person speak into a microphone that makes every one sound the same. I bet that with technology like that you could become good friends with a person that you look at on the street and say oh hes not from where I am I not talking to him or her. Those people are wrong. That’s another argument for another time though.

To me race does not matter if you are attracted to some one then you should follow your feelings and act on them. Do not listen to what anyone says they are just jealous of what you have because they can not be confident enough to date out side of the box. I use the term out side of the box as just a way to say not what people think or want you to do. In the country we live in there is now box we are a mix of all different kinds of people from all different locations around the world. If you really think about it America is like one big high school. And the different ethnicities that make up the citizens of the United States are like clicks. As in high school every click doesn’t like other clicks and they only want to hang out with people in there own click. This is wrong people need to branch out and live for them selves. The first thing that comes to my mind when I am contemplating dating someone is how good of a friend is this person. I them to be my best friend as well as my girlfriend. This proves true because I have friends that are all different ethnicities and I do not care what anyone thinks. They can be black white green I really do not care it is what is on the inside that really matters to me. I think the way I grew up has a big part in this because my family does not discriminate against anyone. We accept people for who they are and act on our feelings no matter what. For example my roommate last year was black and his sister and I really had on of those connections that you can instantly feel. So I decided to talk to him about possible pursuing his sister because we were roommates and I didn’t want things to become weird between us. He was fine with it and me and her dated for about a month before we realized that the whole long distance thing was not going to work for us. The time we were dating I never listened to any ones opinions. They cold give me dirty looks or say mean things I was happy and that is all that matters.
