Winter Is Coming : GRRM hints at Osha

I could see her as Osha: http://www.mtv.com/movies/photos/h/harry_potter_p... Although, she's even shorter than Michelle Ryan (5' 5 1/2")

Winter Is Coming : GRRM hints at Osha

Perhaps the "splash" comment means she played the Lady in the Lake? That's probably a bit of a stretch, I know. Edit: Man, people post like piranhas on this site. ;-) I didn't realize Nimueh was the Lady of the Lake. If Michelle Ryan is not Osha, I will be very surprised. I certainly didn't envision Osha being so hot, but I won't complain. :-)

Winter Is Coming : Thrones fact sheet is a casting bonanza

SIAP, but here's a picture of the mysterious Mhaegen. Antonia Christophers: http://www.ottopm.co.uk/Females/Antonia_Christoph... IMO, she actually looks closer to my image of Lysa than Kate Dickie, although she's also too thin. I have to wonder if they will use padding on Dickie. If they show anything during the breast feeding scene (which I kind of doubt), I don't see how they could.

Winter Is Coming : More casting news: Syrio and Rast

Yerolemou actually looks very close to my mental image of Syrio, especially if I imagine him bald. Aging him up will be no problem at all. Combined with his Shakespearean background, I'm expecting him to own the role.

Winter Is Coming : World-class make-up artist joins the game

If they use CGI for the Others, it would be sweet if they were able to use this new technology: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/215667/the-mo... This looks like it could once and for all eliminate the "woodenness" we still see in even some of the best CGI. Also, on a side note, it looks like Peter Jackson will be directing "The Hobbit" movies after all: http://www.deadline.com/2010/06/urgent-peter-jack...

Winter Is Coming : Scripting Episode 5

I'm imagining the going back and forth between Dany and the Starks will be done similar to how Battlestar Galactica switched between the Galactica crew and Helo and Boomer when they were on Caprica. Or, perhaps a better example is how they switched between the Galactica crew and the Cylons. It's been a while since I've read the first book, but isn't AGoT about 2/3 Stark content and 1/3 Dany content? I could see them taking a break from Dany for 2 episodes, but not 3. If this show makes it to the next few books, I could see it becoming a little like LOST, where there are several "main" characters, and each episode is centered around a specific character.

Winter Is Coming : Multi-ethnic Dothraki?

I don't think having multi-ethnic Dothraki should be taken as any indication that they are going to start changing a lot of things. I would actually be surprised if they did away with the silver hair and purple eyes. It's part of what makes Dany unique. I don't see how they get rid of the dragons either (I assume you would categorize them as an "over the top fantasy element"). Without them, much would have to be changed. There would be no reason for Dany to go sit in the pyre. Without that scene, the Dothraki choosing to follow Dany would be less believable. Without the dragons, she would have no bargaining chip for the Unsullied. I'm also guessing they will be important in the future. In short, all this says to me is that they wanted to include more minorities to appeal to a wider audience. They may end up cutting some things, but I don't think multi-ethnic Dothraki is any reason to assume that. They've always given the impression that they want to change as little as possible, and I still think that's the case.

Winter Is Coming : Emilia Clarke is Daenerys

I thought her acting was quite good, but that's just me. Keep in mind though, that this was a year and a half ago, and I'm guessing this was her first big role. It's reasonable to think she could have improved her skill since then.

Well, I certainly don't fall in the "most people" category, then. I'm definitely happy with the casting. There's just no way they cast an unknown and unproven actress in such an important role unless she's the real deal, and IMO, she's much prettier than Tamzin.

I agree with your last sentence, but when someone tries to tell everyone else what their opinions are and basically pegs them as being dishonest, that's where the line is crossed. Personally, I don't know how anyone could prefer Tamzin's looks over Emilia's, but of course, that's just my opinion.

I'm baffled that anyone could say Emilia isn't pretty enough to play Dany, but then go on to say that Tamzin is. This girl is much prettier than Tamzin, and yes, that is just my opinion. Even with Hollywood make-up, I never thought Tamzin reached that "beautiful" status. In any case, we haven't seen Emilia in full Hollywood make-up yet, so comparing her looks to Tamzin's at this point is really unfair. Even so, the few pics we have of Emilia to me are more beautiful than anything I've seen from Tamzin. I'm going to predict that she'll look stunning on screen.

Winter Is Coming : Emilia Clarke is Daenerys

I'm loving this casting choice. She has the right kind of beauty for Dany, and her eyes are capable of such depth and expression. With her hair dyed, she will look great as Dany. I also love the fact that she is an unknown, because I will see her only as Dany and never a character from one of her other roles. Because of her lack of experience, I have even more confidence that she has the acting chops - no way she gets the part unless she just blew the directors away. This is why I don't understand how fans of a certain "other actress" could be upset. Emilia must be very talented, for talent is the only way she could have gotten the part, since she is not a name or experienced. Either that, or her style is better suited for Dany. Either way, where are the negatives in that? Devil's advocate: Perhaps they could get Emilia for cheaper and that had something to do with her being chosen? I don't see how, considering the high budget of the show and how vital this role is to the story and the show's success. That kind of thinking would be very short-sighted. No salary would prevent them from casting the very best option for Dany. Really excited about this one.

Winter Is Coming : More roles confirmed being cast

There's been discussion on here about her, and some think she would be a good choice, based on her acting. However, she's legally too young to play the role at 16. Even if she were 18, she would have to be willing to do the sex scenes - not always a given. I could be wrong, but she doesn't seem the type to me. She'll probably be a hot commodity for movies anyway. According to IMDb, she's currently filming "Hanna" and has another movie lined up.

I think you really hit it with Cassie. I couldn't make up my mind about her readings, and there was something bothering me that I couldn't put my finger on. She did a good job with some of the individual lines, but I think it's the transitioning between lines that was a bit... off. I noticed she didn't quite have the script memorized yet and had to look down periodically, so that would definitely affect continuity. I do see some potential there, and I agree that she might make a good Margaery Tyrell. She is gorgeous though. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing her in those sex scenes, heh.

My thoughts exactly. She was much too composed, her emotions too restrained... especially with her facial features, or lack there-of. She was only portraying the regal side of Dany, but as we know, Dany has several dimensions to her character. When she says "I am no child", she needs to sound and look affronted, but not so much that she comes out as petulant. That fire needs to surface in her expression, in her voice. It needs to be issued like a challenge to Mormont.

Winter Is Coming : Press clippings: LA Times and PlayStation mag

After watching this a second time, I agree that acting-wise, she's just a little off for the role. She's too composed for me. That inner fire so crucial to Dany needs to show up more in her facial expressions, but I know that's hard to do without over-acting. There was not enough passion in her speech to the Dothraki people, or at least, it was too restrained. She also gives the speech as if she were speaking through a microphone at a convention rather than with the near-shout she would need for her voice to reach all those people. Her voice became quieter and more tentative as the speech went on, and I think that's because she was playing off the words more than the moment. The Dothraki follow strength, and Dany is trying to get them to do the unthinkable: follow a woman, and not even a full-grown woman. She can't let any vulnerability show, even for second. JMO. She's got some chops though, so I wouldn't mind seeing her for a lesser role. Dany just requires someone ultra-special to portray her.
