Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 7/29 Some Say Health Care Bill Lets Govt. "Play God"

Barney Frank is candid and - for a change - quite "frank" with an interviewer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3BS4C9el98 The title of this interview should be... "how to go about getting government in complete control of health care, because right now we don't have enough votes." Freaky.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 7/29 Health Care Vote On Hold Again, Or Is It?

Many say "as California goes, so goes the nation". Today Arnold Schwarzenegger proved conclusively that the ONLY possible way to get spending cuts of ANY significance out of a liberal government is to have a Republican in charge and a line item veto. (And even that is AFTER critical mass has been reached!)

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 7/28 The Senate Appears To Make (Bi-Partisan) Progress On Health Care Bill

AARP, the AMA, the drug companies. They all have to walk a fine line. They've been "told" that if they actively oppose the changes, they won't get a seat at the table. Kind of puts them in a tough position, but we wouldn't want to bring politics into the debate, now would we?

But true and honest health care reform is NOT the O-Team's primary objective... certainly not Nancy Pelosi's. No matter what they have named dozens of those czars, most of them fall under the "Increase the size of the Democratic party" czar. Rush LImbaugh pointed out on Greta's show last night that a miniscule 29 billion in the stimulous package (as compared to its total size) could have covered MILLIONS of uninsured people. The President stated that he gets letters every day from people in crisis. And yet he does nothing for them, UNLESS the entire system changes. If that happens, a new system introduces all kinds of new costs, unexpected bugs, inefficiencies and loopholes that need to be found and corrected over the foreseeable future. This is an unavoidable reality that even people capable of giving great teleprompter speeches cannot make go away. It's partisan politics at its worst. Truly.

What makes me (and probably most Americans) angry is that they are clearly NOT focused on cleaning up the health care system. Anyone who has been in project management probably knows two golden rules: 1. You don't completely replace a large, monstrous, existing system unless you have no other choice. 2. The secret to tackling large projects is to break it into smaller, more manageable pieces (which can be delegated). And yet, there they sit, trying to come up with a way to control EVERYTHING and not have it cost money. They've given themselves a Rubik's cube to sit and turn back and forth that can never be solved. If I was President and appointing czars, I would appoint the following (just from what I've observed by participating in the existing system): 1. A "Reduce/eliminate Fraud" czar. 2. A "Minimize frivolous lawsuits czar". 3. A "Share the cost of drug R&D with other nations" czar. 4. A "Create 24 hour clinics so people can go there instead of an emergency room" czar. (Continued in reply)

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 7/22 No House Vote On Health Care Until September? (fingers crossed)

You asked me to define an "unreasonable profit". Technically, the free market is supposed to define that. We have a long history proving that capitalism WORKS. Once someone drifts above an average of 6-7% profit, a competitor will offer the same product or service cheaper and force the offending company to reduce their prices or go out of busines. Government is already intervening in the capitalist system on health care because they have maxiums that they will pay (which differ by state). So I'm not looking forward to more government meddling, because it rarely works as intended, and the consequences of it affect many.

Developing new pharmacy drugs is REALLY expensive, especially depending on what the medication is supposed to do. But folks on the chat shows have mentioned that if a new drug that will help millions of people is going to cost a billion dollars in research and development, you can either pay the billion dollars or do without the drug. But you are right. They shouldn't be trying to change the ENTIRE system for 47 million people. They should focus on the real SOURCE of the problems. My "big three" to focus on are: (a) frivolous lawsuits/huge settlements, (b) fraud, and companies that try to make huge instead of reasonable profits.

Glenn pointed out today (and showed the clip) of Obama complaining about the endless PAPERWORK. Then he mentioned the fact that government intervention usually INCREASES paperwork. All I can say, is that if you are drowned in paperwork you don't understand and there's no one you can call for assistance (state social services, Social Security, local clinics & hospitals, charities, etc.) then you're probably living in the wrong city, county, and/or state. There's ALL kinds of religious or non-profit organizations out there who are willing to help, and they're just a supplement to all of the state and federal government workers whose JOB it is to help you.

Megyn Kelly & Bill Hemmer had a very interesting segment this morning, pointing out the real cost that drives up premiums and forces Doctors out of the field... FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS. To the tune of 30 billion. What's tragic is that Megyn also pointed out: 1. Most of the settlements go to the LAWYERS, not the plaintiff. 2. Doctors are forced to perform "a set of" expensive tests instead of what they think should actually apply - perhaps just one test - in order to properly cover their butts. All of this drives up the premium cost that the President pointed out is eating up salaries. So if there truly is a crisis, why not attack the real problems... even if they are politically unpalatable? Bush paid the price for the Iraq war and Obama seems prepared to pay a heavy price to make tough decisions. So WHY doesn't he attack the PROBLEMS? And yet simple things like "lawsuit reform" are NOT even on his list of options. He has stated only that he is "sensitive" to the issue, probably because trial lawyers have a pretty good D.C. lobby. I don't think that ANYONE is objecting to giving the FAMILIES or VICTIMS of a legitimate botched procedure some dough. But the Texas Congressman who was interviewed correctly stated that: 1. There should be a penalty for the plaintiff if the lawsuit is tossed out on the grounds it is frivolous (such as the loser pays the court fees of both sides, as is done in the U.K.). 2. Settlements should be capped. If the lawyers don't like that idea, then they should work for an annual salary instead of a percentage of the settlement. Without the "common sense" approaches and an objective acknowledgement by the White House of what is ACTUALLY increasing costs, it IS just politics. And the O-Team is the one playing this game as much as any of their opponents. Do they want to pass a bill that allows them to control the country, or do they want to pass legislation that actually DOES what the title of it promises? It seems to me that if they identified two major issues, such as: (a) lawsuit reform, and (b) reducing fraud, they could save a lot of dollars and use those savings to assist with insuring the uninsured. But that just doesn't seem to be their real agenda. They want to change EVERYONE's health care, not just the people who don't have it. And I do not support that.

Congressional officials currently have a pretty good, guaranteed health care system. So if this new plan they're coming up with is truly great, then why don't they run the new system as a smaller, pilot project in D.C. for 3-4 years? That way everyone can evaluate the costs, study what's working and what's not, and the politicians and their families themselves can get a better picture of what they're planning for the people they were chosen to represent. If it's going to be a vast improvement over what we have now, shouldn't they want to have it as soon as possible too?

I sent all 3 of my state's Democratic Congressional representatives a detailed letter strongly urging them to oppose BOTH Cap and Trade AND government run health care. E-Mails are too easy to ignore, which is why I prefer a good old neatly typed, professionally designed letter sent through snail mail. I say "here are my thoughts" and I put them in writing. It is good to know that others are also speaking out this time around.

It was interesting to hear the President comment yesterday that "this" - meaning health care - "isn't about politics." If I was called on at tonight's press conference, I would therefore ask him why HE is making it political. Trying to ram through a Democrat-only agenda as quickly as possible IS a partisan, political move. Bills that cannot withstand public scrutiny should not be passed because they are not good for America. They are, in fact, panicked attempts to keep unrealistic campaign promises that should never have been made.

When McCain had lobbyists on his campaign staff, Obama criticized him for it. Now that they've got the job, the O-Team is appointing lobbyists. At the time, I told friends about my past as a programmer and project analyst. Any time you want to significantly change an existing system, you must first understand how it works. If I had been McCain, I would have wanted those former lobbyists too. They're the BEST possible source of information as to how to go about changing the existing system. But you've really got to want to do it. If you just change the things that are politically popular, you'll never succeed. We need the right, knowledgeable person leading the way FIRST. THEN you bring in the new blood.

Trying to play Devil's Advocate in the 1990's, I mentioned to my Dad that a lot of men would defend a woman's honor when an indiscretion occurred, out of chivalry if nothing else. I pointed out that if I was faced with a choice between embarrassing a woman or taking the blame or even outright denying a private incident between two people even occurred, I might be tempted to lie also. (One of the RARE times). Dad quickly pointed out "Not when you're under oath, however." As usual, he was correct. And THAT is why the Clinton scandal was NOT a witch hunt. There was perjury involved.
