The States should be responsible to fund the federal government based on an enumerated censes. The States would have the right to tax the people. But I feel lead to start with a different approach. Our founders believe that we have to be a virtuous and morally good people for the country to survive. We have to start with ourselves and our community. First, examine yourself and be that virtuous person with good morals. Practice what you preach. Know what you believe. Read. Learn. We need to talk to our neighbors and help them to become a part of the community. (No one will listen to you if you curse your neighbors.) Once you have a community group. Spread to the next community. Educate your community. Be a leader. With enough communities united, you can elect a proper Representitive to Congress and your state government. This will go much further than a tea party, march, etc. Virtuous, educated communities are the fear of every politician. The federal government would run as it was suppose to run...on money from the states. The states would pay to run the federal gov't. Repealing the 17th amendment would allow the states to once again appoint the Senators. This give the power back to the states that is sorely missing. Now if the states are paying for the federal gov't, they will push for a smaller federal gov't and appoint Senators (that represent the states, Senators are not supposed to represent the people, that is what the House if for) to keep the spending down. Of course, as taxpayers of a certain state, we will be responsible for the money passed to the federal gov't. We will be responsible for electing state officials that keep our taxes low. This brings politics back to the local level just as it is supposed to be. I haven't articulated this as well as it sounds in my head, but there it is.
