Mental Health Counselor says “Animal act circuses not good for kids.
Circuses are training grounds for insensitivity and selfishness. Sooner or later it dawns on children that animals can be forced and mistreated because they are weak, can’t communicate and have virtually no resources of their own, just like infants, old people and the mentally disabled. What a powerful lesson.
And for our kids’ sake, it’s time to throw animal-act circuses into the trash heap of degrading forms of entertainment, such as gladiator contests, blackface minstrel shows, bear baiting, bullfights — the list is endless — as well as freak shows, which were once essential parts of circuses and also worked to increase our credulity and dull our humanity.

What Ringling calls a lifetime commitment to the Asian Elephants is very self serving because none of Ringling’s elephants will ever be returned to the wild but used and abused from birth to force these elephants to perform in their circus for decades or until they die.
Ringling likes to boasts about the 22 + baby elephants born at their Center for Elephant Conservation facility in Florida since 1992. But they “never” mention the 28+ elephants that have died prematurely during the same time period from arthritis, TB and foot diseases caused from being chained their entire lives and performing unnatural acts to entertain the circus audience.
Conservation of an endangered species doesn’t mean breeding more elephants to replace the ones that died young so the circus can continue to have performing elephants.

It is clear this Ms. Nicholson is having so much fun promoting the glitz, glamour and excitement of the circus, she has written several articles already about Ringling Bros Circus but no mention at all about the evidence of the abusive and inhumane lives the elephants and tigers live. The dog and cats are domesticated animals and probably live a semi comfortable life. But the same cannot be said of the exotic animals. If you’ve ever studied elephants and tigers natural behaviors you soon learn that elephants don’t sit or stand on a stool, they don’t paint pictures, and tigers don’t jump through rings of fire, nor do they lay down next to other tigers and row over on cue, or walk on their hind legs at the crack of a whip. They do these things because they are hit with bullhooks, electric prods and whips. Ms. Nicholson aren't' your duties as a reporter to examine and report on both sides of an issue?

Their are lots of videos and pictures of Ringling's elephant trainers abusing their elephants on YouTube. A picture speaks a thousand words a video leaves little doubt for anyone who wants to know the truth.
I've educated myself about captive circus elephants and elephants in the wild. Many of Ringling Bros Circus performing elephants are in their 40's so they've been performing for decades, easy to remember elephant names and history after appearing in thousands of shows.
These two elephant sanctuaries have website, The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and P.A.W.S in California.
They've been taking in circus elephants with physical and mental problems for decades. You learn that even elephants suffer from PTSD from the abuse they suffered at the hands of the circus industry.

Elephants and tiger are not domesticated animals they are wild animals. And if you still believe that these animals are treated humanely you haven't looked at all the videos, pictures and USDA Inspection Reports that can be found on the Internet proving this abuse and mistreatment.
You are clearly not interested in knowing the truth. You probably think that when the elephants are backstage and chained up swinging their trunks and bodies in a rhythmic manner they are dancing. When in truth this is a sign of severe stress.

With the Internet at people's fingertips there is no excuse for not checking out the circuses claims that they treat their animal well. Quick search on YouTube you can watch the circus abusing their elephants. All USDA inspection reports are public records and can be viewed online detailing the violations filed against Ringling over the care of their animals. For 141 years the circus has been abusing their elephants, but in the next breath call their shows wholesome family entertainment..

Carol, Duchess and Patty have been performing for the circus for decades. These elephants were wild caught, so they watched their mothers and families killed so that all the baby elephants could be captured, chained and shipped to the Circuses in America to perform for their audiences. Now you know why Ringling never mentions how they came into possession of these elephants, doesn’t fit with the circus’s image for their audiences to know that all the adult elephants were killed to get the babies.
Ringling likes to show the public how their elephant handlers dote and love these animals and maybe they do. But the circus has always kept hidden the barbaric training methods they use behind closed doors to train their baby and adult elephants.
All elephant handler carry around a bullhook. These elephants were beaten with bullhooks and shocked with prods to train them and they fear these torture tools the handlers use to control them. These elephants haven’t forgotten the beatings. You can watch Ringling's training sessions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFCZ25w8rCY

Patty, Duchess, and Carol, have been performing since they were very young. They were wild caught as babies. They watched their mothers and families being killed. They were captured, chained up and shipped to America. Then the circus industry beat them with bullhooks and shocked them with electricity until they were totally dominated and then forces them to perform on cue in hundreds of shows a year. The bullhook that all handlers carry with them, is a reminder to the elephants that they had better perform or they will be hooked or stabbed.
If you love animals the circus is the last place you should take your family, these animals live a very inhumane life to entertain you.
