Get yourselves to New Zealand if you can. It's the most beautiful country I've seen (I live in the suburbs of Chicago) and I just love the general...feel of it. Wellington is neat. Kaikoura, which is on the south island, is friggin' gorgeous.

My trip was both the most amazing thing I've ever done and the most painful (at the time) because I was crushing very hard on a New Zealander gentleman but he was with another girl, so I pretty much wept every day I was there because my heart was oh so very sad.

I wound up marrying him four years later.

I'll tout "House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende for eternity. And the reason I started reading her? John Taylor of Duran Duran said it was his favorite book in the tour program for the '87 Duran Duran tour.

He can play bass like a boss AND make decent book recs. What's not to love, really?

My mother is staying with my sister, who had her hip replaced this week, so he and I have the house to ourselves and it is AMAZING how much of a better mood we're both in. Clearly another sign that my buying our own space is a must-do.

More exciting (and rather shit-squeakingly terrifying) than that...going to my first comic-con thing in August...getting my picture taken with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. To say that "The X-Files" meant a lot to me...well, it's the stuff of about 900,000 thinkpieces (that perhaps one day I will write about).

I believe I saw it happening through the Hairpin...it feels like such a long time ago. I didn't really start commenting with any sort of zeal until, like, three months ago. GOOD FUCKING TIMING ON MY PART.

I shouldn't be surprised, though - I'm the kind of person where it takes me a good, oh, couple of years to realize things exist and/or are cool.

Holy mother of god Tim need to get kicked the motherFUCK out of that house RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND. When I read that this morning...I mean, the RAGE that bloomed in my heart was fiery and rich like liquid fudge.

I don't know why "liquid fudge", it's the best I've got right now.

I'm personally taking great....comfort - yes, let's call it that - scrolling every so slightly back and forth, back and forth between Oscar Isaac's photo and Benedict Cumberbatch's photo on the main page.

So much...comfort.

*deep, lung-rattling delighted sigh*

I admit, I don't always immediately pick up on a joke, but I'll never stop being astounded at some people's lack of ability to identify satire and absurdity. Or their refusal to embrace absurdity and satire in their lives. Lighten up, Francises.
