Big Hollywood : In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

One of the only guys that could step into a den of liberals and not only hold his own, but also have em laughing by the end of the debate. RIP Breitbart.

Big Hollywood : ‘Game of Thrones’ Review: Gripping and Unpredictable

That's how they get ya...their original series created by oustiders(GoT, The Wire, Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale...etc etc) is so good that you have to subscribe to it. But their original movies or documentaries or Maher are so one-sided that you wanna puke. Plus HBOGO is pretty awesome too...can't stand their partisan stances on everything created by HBO, but someone in that boardroom knows what they're doing as far as the rest of the programming goes.

Big Hollywood : 'Portlandia' Review: Sketch Comedy Targets Liberal Culture with Good Natured Style

This show is pretty funny, and spot on. I was in Portland about a year before it came out and was asked when I got back to Jersey, 'So what's Portland like?' and all I could say was 'Very 90s'. Very much a city of extremes too...I've never seen so many health food nuts and crazy donut shops in one place. Probably the weirdest thing happened to me when I happened to be wearing my Reagan T-shirt in the style of Obama's Hope poster that says 'Right'. It had me getting stopped left and right(no pun intended), stared at for a second, then complete strangers would give me the thumbs up and say 'cool t-shirt' or something along those lines. It got to the point where my girlfriend at the time told me I couldn't wear that on any vacations anymore.

Another movie about conservatives written by liberals...think I'll pass on that one. Why HBO, why do you have to have such good original dramas and innovative web content in HBOGO that forces me to continue to subscribe?

Big Hollywood : Whoopi Goldberg on Communism: 'On Paper It Makes Perfect Sense'

Can we once and for all put to rest this notion that communism 'looks great on paper'. An ideology that's responsible for that many deaths doesn't work on paper, or in theory, or in practice. The best thing that ever happened to communism was Hitler and national socialism...and that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Big Hollywood : Romney Latest Politician to Enter Late Night Arena

I don't mind candidates going on late night shows...but why's it gotta be Letterman? He's about as openly partisan as any of them and it's as if he has them on to kiss the ring and be his court jester. Go on Craig Ferguson's show...at least he seems like a decent guy, and it'd probably needle Letterman a little cause they're on the same network.

Big Hollywood : 'Homeland' Finale Review: Anti-American to the Core

Yeah, full disclosure, a big reason that I'll keep watching is cause of Claire Danes...Morena Baccarin being in it doesn't hurt either, I try to follow as much of the old Firefly cast as I can. It does hurt seeing that they turned Dick Winters into an Al Qaeda operative, but the rest of the cast fills out nicely...especially Carrie's buddy who carries out all of her off the book black ops, the actors name doesn't come to mind right now. I try not to look at certain shows/movies in black and white terms and this one happens to be a perfect example why. Cause if you look at it in a certain way, yeah, Carrie is nuts...but she's also been correct about everything, and she's about as rabid as an anti-terrorist operative can be and still have a job. So on the one had, yeah, the way they flip the marines seems kind of trivial...and I can nitpick all day(like I did previously)...but on the other hand, it kinda shows that being a little nuts(or out of the box, like I like to think of it) is what's needed at certain times in the war or terrorism. Carrie kinda reminds me of a Winston Churchill...sure they're pretty useless in times of peace...Carrie would probably spend most of her time banging her head against the wall waiting for a terrorist plot to spring...but in times of war, we absolutely need that kind of devoted person, who's sole mindset is focused a singular purpose.

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'll watch season 2...cause I did like this show a lot, right up until the whole 'moral equivalency' garbage reared it's ugly head. Having never been in the military myself, I found it kinda odd how easily it seemed two well trained marines were turned against the country they were sworn to protect. I wonder how current and former marines felt about that. Lets just say Brody does have a legitimate reason to have a beef with our government...wouldn't you think the play would be that once you got back onto US soil you would go right to the top of our government, tell them everything you know about Nazir(being that he's still a terrorist, and would have no problem setting off a bomb that would result in the killing of US children) AND everything you knew about what really happened with the drone strike...thus killing two birds with one stone and maintaining the idea that you will not stand for the killing of children anywhere in the world? And poor old Tom Walker...he gets beaten by his sniper team partner to within an inch of his life apparently. And somewhere between faking his death and coming back to America he gets turned. Nasir's simple instructions...become a bum in the DC area until we need you. I dunno, a beating turns you to the enemy, wouldn't you think that the enemy telling you to become a homeless man for an undetermined amount of time would turn you again? If I were him I'd be shouting to the high heavens once I got back as well...listen, they tried to turn me, I'm supposed to do something at some point in time, probably set up a sniper nest somewhere and kill someone...but I want my pension, it ain't worth eating out of cardboard boxes. I dunno...hopefully Patinkin doesn't quit the show and his character has a one on one with Brody and smacks the hell out of him.

Somehow people still don't get it that when you're interviewed, that interview is out there for all time, for anyone to read. I'd have much more respect for him if, when he did this, he said, 'Listen, I don't like the lady or what she says...so I used my position as bandleader and needled her a bit.' I still wouldn't have agreed with what he did to a guest you invited onto your show....but man up and stick to your guns, instead of blatantly lying.

I dunno who these republicans and democrats were, but I'd have to disagree with South Park being on of the least favorite shows among republicans. It's pretty much the only entertainment show on TV that will consistently take swipes at liberals. Feels more like whoever made this list had two templates in front of them...one for what conservatives are supposed to be like, and one for what liberals are supposed to be like and just arranged shows accordingly.

Big Hollywood : What Shoulda Won? 1998 Academy Awards

Clooney's a throw away character out of those guys...the other 3 actually play pretty decent characters. But if they make you not want to see it Caviezel, Nolte, Elias Koteas and Ben Chaplin more than make up for them. Nick Nolte should still be winning Best Supporting Actor Oscars for his work in this movie. Plus just take a look at who was left on the cutting room floor once Malick started cutting up the movie...Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Pullman, Gary Oldman, Mickey Rourke, Lukas Haas, Martin Sheen and Viggo Mortensen. That's a lot of acting talent that didn't make the cut.

From what I understand Malick didn't want Clooney in the movie, but the studio kind of forced it. He was actually said to be pretty ticked off that leading up to the premiere the ad campaign made a big deal out of Clooney being in the movie...knowing full well that he was in it all of 5 minutes towards the end.

The Thin Red Line made it's way into my top 10 favorite movies in the past few years. I don't think that makes me smarter than anyone else because of it though...just always preferred it to Saving Private Ryan. 98 was a good year for movies in my top 10 though...The Big Lebowski is in there too. Actually saw it twice in the theater when it came out too...glad it's gotten the respect that it deserves over the years since it's release.

Big Hollywood : Why Conservatives Need Patience and the Writers Need Help With 'The Walking Dead'

Some spoilers throughout this...but I've enjoyed the show so far. Sure there are a lot of idiotic things they do...or don't do, but most TV shows/movies have a few parts here and there that have you scratching your head(except for the Big Lebowski, the Dude basically did everything correctly...including drinking the obviously drugged white russian made by Jackie Treehorn). I've read the comic, but the show's been different enough where anything could basically happen now...so first things first, I'd be telling Herschel it's not up to him if they stay. Shane, and probably Andrea now, are the only ones that seem to grasp that the world went to hell in a handbasket...the old rules are out the window. And I don't want to get into a pro-life/abortion debate...but Lori was being wildly selfish to even consider abortion, no matter who the father is. You found an apparent safe haven(once you coerce Herschel one way or another)...and with humanity being pretty sparse, it'd be up to survivors to repopulate(sorry if I offend any women here, but basically the most important role would fall on their shoulders). I feel like Battlestar Galactica tackled a lot of these questions best when it came to what to do when something is trying to wipe out humanity. The President's(a woman, and very liberal in her past life) previous political stances took a hard right turn when she was smacked in the face with the real life situations that they were faced with once the Cylons came knocking. She outlaws abortions because she realizes it's not enough to just survive...that'll work for a generation or two...what they really need is to have as many kids as they possibly can to ensure the human race doesn't go the way of the dinosaur. Every question she asked herself was weighted with the fact that the human race was near extinction...makes things much clearer that way. Right now too many of The Walking Dead survivors aren't using that type of filter when asking themselves real world questions. Shane has that filter now, but they're pretty much making him crazy now...so I doubt he's sticking around for much longer. Hopefully Rick has that now too though...him being the one to kill Sophia was no accident...reasserts that he's the leader, plus it shows he gets it...you turn into a zombie, you gotta go down, even if you were a child(yeah he killed one right off the bat, but he didn't actually know her...so it wasn't exactly the same). All that being said, I'm looking forward to the series resuming in Feb.

Big Hollywood : Is 'The Walking Dead' Terminal? Yes. Because It's Stupid.

Isn't the main theme kind of where every conservative's ideology begins though? Government failed them abysmally...these are just a bunch of random people thrown together now having to fend for themselves with no help from DC. And obviously if it's set in the South they're going to use a few stereotypes here and there...so of course they're going to introduce the Dixon brothers as racist, backwoods, rednecks. But look at how Daryl's character has changed already since we first met him. I happen to be from the North, and I would expect that if it were based around the NYC/NJ area there would be a character or two of Italian decent who's got a big mouth and talks about food all the time, nothing wrong with that either. As far as the guns go, if they were smart, they'd be fighting over those machetes...not the guns. I'd much rather a weapon that doesn't make a sound or need to be loaded then one that does once the zombie apocalypse comes around here.
