Reef Builders -The Reef Aquarium Blog : Arcadia OT2 LED T5 hybrid light fixture gets illuminated

The reason LEDs are designed into fixtures that don't require fans is that LEDs are solid state technology and therefore they are designed to operate with passive heat dissipation instead of fans. Designing LEDs into packages which require fans would defeat and undermine the whole purpose of solid state technology.

The panel of LEDS does show them to be adequately spaced to allow for passive air movement and the center of the luminaire is aluminum and acts like a passive heat dissipator.

Reef Builders -The Reef Aquarium Blog : Red Dragon II pumps 240 watt, 350 watt recalled

Alright everyone, simmer down, simmer down. Let's try to keep the comments focused less on politics and a few bad apples and more on the technical specs of the products and their application in aquarium use. Jon H- We all know that you know more than the average guy about sourcing and manufacturing certain aquarium equipment, if only you would use your knowledge for good instead of evil; taking shots at a company that doing a voluntary recall is low and cheap. If anyone wants a good case in point of how something can be entirely made in China but yet the bulk of the design, engineering and marketing expenses are spent in another country, take a look at the iPod family of products from Apple.

The sea apple is a royal sea apple, from Indian Ocean/Sri Lanka and it is only a moderate size. At least the sea apple has some high end credit as well.
