Well, I've been asked by several local and national news websites (some tv station related) to submit newsworthy local photography -- when I happen upon such events. I wouldn't be paid but I would receive credit. I've thought a lot about those offers recently as NPR and many newspapers have announced layoffs and I've been wondering if the future of the news will be going the same way.

I watched The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight, and Iron Man all in one weekend. I have to say that Iron Man was the best of all 3. I had really hoped that TDK was going to be exceptional but I thought it was far too long and had too much stuffed into it. I thought Hulk didn't have a sturdy enough plot and didn't make enough use of Norton, who does excellent angst and it was wasted. Iron Man was an excellent vision of a man's journey of redemption and even though it had it's dark angsty bits, it was great fun too.

>>Of course, that doesn't stop me from blogging about it. lol <<

Last year the email that was sent around our office specifically instructed us not to discuss the company on the Internet -- not even the good stuff. It kept me awake one night thinking I might have to explain in a job interview that I was terminated from my job for blogging about how wonderful my old job was.

Coincidentally, the email had come around a day after i'd posted about a charity fundraiser related to where I worked and how folks should participate. I immediately pulled the post. (My previous employer did, in fact, discover an old blog and I had nothing nice to say about them and there was retaliation.)

I can't remember where I heard it now -- NPR possibly -- but I recently heard that last year, most people got their news from blogs and it was more accurate and more up-to-date than most of the usual suspects.

I'm ready for the inauguration to be over so we can all stop speculating about what he's going to do. I've been waiting for the WWOD? bracelets to pop up in stores. I have a sneaky feeling that the media has been passing around homemade versions since November 4th. :P

I think it's one thing to invite someone like Warren or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over to dinner for discussion and debate and quite another to invite one to represent you on your first day as President. I just don't think having Warren give the invocation gives the message that Obama is rising above ideology; it hints at just the opposite.

I think Warren is absolutely the wrong choice for the inauguration, but oddly I am not surprised in the least. In many ways, I don't think Warren is a far throw from Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Every year on October 31rst, I consider taking the extreme outline of Star Wars, changing the names of everyone and rewriting the whole thing in a different setting for NaNoWriMo. I think it would probably be really different since I don't think I've seen the movie in over 10 years and I mostly recall it in flashbacks from re-enacting the movies with my friends in the backyard as a kid -- except there were two girls, so we had an extra character.

Anyway, this reminded me of something I read: "...there is nothing new under the sun." There are no new tales to tell, just new ways to tell them.
