MamaPop | Entertainment News & Everything Pop Culture For Women : If Tina Fey Is Sexist, Then I'm Probably A Raving Misogynist

I think the word "sexist" has come out of Republicans' mouths more in the past few weeks than in the entire history of the party combined. The hypocrisy of this is just killing me - when a female Democrat claims something is sexist, she's being "overly PC", and weak. Now, though, anyone who doesn't shower Sarah Palin with praise is sexist, and that's fine. Why wasn't it sexist to have a Hillary character say, "Stop saying I have cankles?" (which I thought was hysterical, but I digress...) Either the whole skit was sexist, or none of the skit was sexist. It can't be just one portrayal was sexist, but the other was fine. Personally? I thought the whole thing was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. But, then, I laugh at almost everything on SNL...except for some of Michael Phelps' skits...

MamaPop | Entertainment News & Everything Pop Culture For Women : Because, You Know, It'll Be Her *Choice* To Get Married At Seventeen

Actually, if it was Obama's daughter, I'm pretty sure there would be about a gajillion sites pointing to the "dysfuncitonal African-American family". Instead, we have people saying, "Isn't it sweet that they're getting married, and doing the right [snort] thing?"

MamaPop | Entertainment News & Everything Pop Culture For Women : Yeah, I Know. Sarah Palin's 17-Year-Old Daughter is Pregnant.

I was thinking today about how all of this makes Sarah Palin look like a regular person, "like one of us". Despite the gazillion trillion different views, I would like to think both Sarah Palin and I are "regular people", and "just like everyone else." I know that I'm not qualified to be the VP; how does this make HER qualified to be the VP???

Yes, I know that he was the mayor of NYC, not the Governor of NY State. However, the population of NYC is still 12 million people - not the metro NY area, but the city itself. The mayor is still the "executive" of the local government. I would contend that the executive experience gained as mayor of NYC is at least equal to the executive experience gained as governor of a 670,000 person state. Of course, I'm not sure either of those experiences really prepares you for being President of the United States, but that's a different question.

Okay, sorry, just one more post. Before yesterday, she and McCain had met EXACTLY ONCE in their lives, and that was six months ago. Here's where I become completely naive, but I would like to think that the President and Vice-President should know each other and should know that they can work together - look at the last bit of Clinton-Gore. You can't tell me that McCain knows Palin will be a good partner in all of this - she was chosen at least in part because of her gender, which I think is just as bad as NOT choosing someone - at least in part - because of her gender. I'm sure Obama and Biden aren't best buddies, hanging out together watching the Redskins or the Cubs or something, but at least we know they've passed each other in the hall and have a sense of how the other one works.

She is part of a group whose line is "refuse to choose". It is possible to be pro-choice and pro-life: I think women should have the choice, but don't think I could have an abortion myself. However, to think that the government can take away my right to choose is just apalling. From what I have read, Sarah Palin isn't just pro-life, she is anti-choice: women should not be able to make their own decision.

Do you know how many people live in Alaska? 670,000 Just for comparison, NYC has over 8 million - almost 12 times the size - yet the same party basically laughed at Giuliani, saying how could you compare the two jobs? Granted, Alaska has many issues to deal with - poverty, environmental concerns, people who wish Alaska wasn't part of the US to begin with - but I'm not sure that her "executive experience" holds a candle to the senate experience of McCain or Biden.

We went to Alaska last summer. As we were on a bus going to see a glacier, we drove past the State House. We were amazed that Juneau seemed smaller than our town. When my brother drove by, the governor was outside, signing a bill or something. IN FLIP FLOPS!!!! Yes, she was standing outside the State House in an official capacity, wearing her Tevas. While it did make her seem like an everyday person, I would like to know that the second-highest ranking person representing our country can go visit a world leader without looking like an idiot. (You know, like by throwing up on the Prime Minister of China or something...) Granted, if she was a pageant queen, she probably knows how to dress appropriately, but whatever. Not that it's all about her clothes and how she looks...

It's not that any candidate is awesome - it's that some "glass ceiling" will be shattered. I live in MA, and there were four people in the general election for governor: a black man, a white woman, and two independents. It was pretty cool that, no matter who won, it wouldn't be the same old "white guy from one of two parties" thing. Granted, the candidates were vastly different, and there were some outcomes that pretty much terrified me. But I took solace in the fact that, no matter what, the nature of elections and what demographic is "electable" would change.

Actually, oh anonymous one, she is pro-life. According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_...she said, "I am as pro-life as any candidate can be." And she's a member of a group called "Feminists for Life".
MamaPop | Entertainment News & Everything Pop Culture For Women : Nickelodeon Decides To Skank Up Dora: World Ends Not With A Bang But A Defeated Whimper

As for making Dora more "mature"...here's what they don't seem to realize. Yes, the kids who watched Dora two years ago aren't watching it now. My son used to watch Dora all the time, but he hardly watches it now. He thinks it's a "baby show". But he's six - he loved it when he was 4. But there's a whole new crop of 3 and 4 year olds who love the show. Don't focus on the kids "graduating" from the show and try to cater it to them; instead, make sure you are appealing enough to grab the new kids entering the age group. And? Skankifying Dora is just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Dinks.
