West Ham Till I Die : Match Thread: Leeds United v West Ham

Look we all know that we are in a battle for automatic promotion and we have dropped unnecessary points recently but I will never boo my team, it isn't exactly going to act as a positive motivation to doing better now is it. Put your disappointment and ire in to constructive postings on the forum, that players et al do read, but leave the negativity at home when going to the game. I am still positive for automatic promotion and that and the love of West Ham are what guide my actions. COYI

West Ham Till I Die : Ten Things We Learned From Today

I'm in the same camp as Aussie here, think Maynard has done far better than reflected in his marks. He and Baldock are just the type of players we need and thought we looked a worse team when he went off on Sun; always dangerous and loves scoring, which he will do plenty of for us. I thought yesterday was an outstanding display and agree that Nolan had his best game for us to date. The boys don't obviously feel the same pressure to deliver away from home as they do at home because if they had produced the quality we have seen at Blackpool and Cardiff we would be at least 10 points ahead of Southampton. I still believe the higher tempo we can play, especially in this league the more success we will have and we do have a lot more players now who can deliver this, especially in the final third. Overall, was getting strange looks in Asda, with headphones on listening to the game, fist-pumping and whoops of delight; very pleased with the display and the outcome. Against Watford I would be a little more expansive and really look to take the game to them and play 4-3-1-2 but with Nolan operating just behind Maynard/Baldock.

West Ham Till I Die : Parish Notice: A New Look for WHTID - Your Views Please

Hi Iain. Looking forward to the new site and you are right something special has been created here. I like the idea of a video match highlight, which could spark even more discussion for those who couldn't make into the game or get any of the other media streams. It might also be of value to have a match summary report, with a guest writer from amongst the regular posters. there are many on here that write well and it would be great to obtain a broad and differing perspective on the game from mainstream media. I think there should also be an initiation process for new contributors, ie a précis version of the interview you recently were the subject of, you know background, why the hammers , best 11, most memorable game, favourite all time player etc; a way of welcoming the newbie in to the fold....plus material to hold against them should they ever try to leave!!

West Ham Till I Die : Bobby Moore Must Never Be Forgotten

Did you have to make me weep on a Friday night; as most of you who have read my posts know it was the great man who brought me to this club I love so much. I remember being completely heartbroken hearing of his death on the TV. I couldn't even get to UP, I was on duty in Italy at the time. The greatest tackle ever made was by Bobby, the greatest moments in both a West Ham and England shirt saw Bobby leading with his usual calmness and panache. He has symbolised everything that we love about our heros and shows even today that there are no more sporting heroes because who can be compared to him. He will live forever because he is our club and our club is him. My 10 year old son has never seen him play outside of the numerous DVDs I have of him, but he is his hero too; he wears the number 6 for his team and every time he comes off at the end of the game the first thing he asks is what do you reckon Bobby would have thought of how I played today Dad. I wish I could be at UP tomorrow, unfortunately I am heading off to South Africa on business but sing loud and proud and may be God would let us have him back..even if just for those 90 mins tomorrow. Jimmy Tarbuck, a lifelong Liverpool fan, loved Bobby and once said that the only reason God took him was because he needed a captain to lead all the other wonderful players he had around him in heaven and there could only be one person worthy of that position, Bobby.

West Ham Till I Die : You Know You've Done A Good Interview When...

Iain, sorry to hear that some think they can steal your time and effort and then take umbrage with your request for them to desist and try to make it an issue of sexuality. I get all the sources on the Hammers but for the last few months have only paid any attention to this site, it is well written, has topics of interest and as I have previously said I feel that I have a band of brothers on here that are Hammers fanatics, none of which I have yet met, united by the site and the topics we discuss and our love of West Ham. Long may that continue my friend and thank you.

West Ham Till I Die : An Interview For The Football Trader

You know if any discussion thread ever embodied what this blog is all about then this was it and not sure if you knew what distributing your interview to us all, Iain, would lead to but thank you. I can see the merits in each and every post and they have truly captured the feeling that through this blog we are indeed a band of West Ham lunatics, ever hopeful, ever dreaming, ever longing to see those Irons up where they belong.......peeing down all over that North London Cockrel, tearing the tail of those red devil Mancs and retiring the Liver Bird for good. West Ham til I die and then some.

West Ham Till I Die : An Interview For The Football Trader

Some great posts here, great reading guys. Funnily for me I came to be a Hammer through watching an England game. My dad says I was about 5 and was watching England V Brazil in 1970 World Cup. I had just witnessed the best ever tackle I have ever seen by Bobby and asked my dad who that man was. I saw the look of utter admiration and respect on his face as he said that is England's heart and soul and captain, Bobby Moore and I could only ever support one club after that. I remember the 1980 FA Cup final most fondly as all my mates were Arsenal fans and wrote us off before the game had even started. I rang every single one of them up after the game and savoured that moment of glory, much to their displeasure. Now you can guess who my favourite hammer of all time is. Moore brought me to this wonderful club and I have idolised him as a boy and man and still get very emotional over his treatment by the footballing authorities post playing days and his death. His patience, football intelligence, calmness, leadership and example set on and off the pitch would put most to shame these days. My son's hero, he says, is his dad first and Bobby second! Parkes, Stewart, Bonds, Moore, Dicks, Devonshire, Brooking, Parker, Cole J, Di Canio, Cottee The day Bobby died I was on a tri-national military base in Italy, up until that point enjoying the results of the training I had put in place for my unit. Upon hearing the news I was devastated and heartbroken, my hero, my idol was gone. I still have the newspaper from that day. I cried with you all and would have given anything to have been at UP on that day. Matches are more accessible through the media than ever before, so if you can't get to a game you can usually follow it somewhere else. Too much money, no loyalty, lack of respect, racist behaviour not being dealt with appropriately. I still have the very first West Ham shirt my dad bought my when I was 8, 38 years ago; that will be buried with me. I would have just loved to have spent a minute with Bobby, probably wouldn't have been able to get anything coherent out of my mouth but I was just have been happy to have shaken his hand and said thank you. Favourite period would have been the 80s, especially 1986,when we came so close.

West Ham Till I Die : Vote: Player Performances v Southampton

You know boys this post has been a delight to read, so much positivity even though we didn't win the game. I'm a big fan of Maynard, so was pleased to read the comments on him specifically. He will score goals for us when he is given the opportunity to show what he can do for longer than allowed to date. I was doing everything not to follow the game last night as it would have ended in divorce; I am not the shining example of calmness I should be to my children when watching the boys, and have been in the dog house many a time for my inability to just sit and watch. So given that the general opinion is that the ref had a shocker I am glad I waited til the end; don't think I would have survived playing up on Valentines Day. I feel happier with a more aggressive attacking formation, we have the players to dictate to other teams;let's now make them worry about us and what we can do with the options we now have and go out and take the game to them, especially the next two games. The message should be loud and clear, we do not belong in this league and we will be back where we belong come May and no-one is going to stop that from happening.

West Ham Till I Die : Interview With David Sullivan

Great news Iain, most serious questions have already been asked. I would be interested in who their favourite players were growing up and the best ever hammers game they saw and why. I am also available for coaching, played for England up until age 19 as well as 5 1st team games for Southampton in early 80s before breaking my leg in three places in a reserves match against Chelsea.

West Ham Till I Die : Transfer Window Rolling News

I have seen Morrison play and he is full of talent, but he will need special handling to get the best out of him. He refused a new deal at MU, he maintains nothing to do with the money and I think he or his advisers realise he needs to get away from his home town for his own future. If he can settle he will be a star. To answers all those who are having a go, I think this will turn out to be an excellent window for us, Tevez was never coming, thank God, and there was no intimation from the club that he would be. Jelavic isn't as good as Maynard for me; I would much rather have someone tried and tested than someone from the SPL and Vaz Te looks like he's in good form, so all in all good business. Ze Eduardo was an insurance policy, if we get the others then don't expect him to play much. You know some of you need to get over your blind hatred of Gold and Sullivan, there would be no West Ham if they hadn't come along. Sure they sometimes make hard work for themselves and can be a PR nightmare but I do not doubt their love for the club and their desire to make it the best they can. I see nothing that shows me they are behaving in the same way they behaved at Birmingham.

Retty, can't disagree with you more. We just need to get out of this league and if that means playing ugly then so be it. The so called West Ham way died 30 odd years ago and it's about time we grew up and got real. Sam may not be the most creative manager going but he has made us hard to beat, since when could we say we had the best defensive stats in any league? We need more fire power but this window is not the time to do it as others are very reluctant to weaken their own squads half way through the season. I would have made a couple of serious enquiries and thereafter left well alone until promoted when we once again become a much more attractive prospect. The FA needs to tell FiFA that is is doing away with the transfer windows as they are an illegal restriction on the movement of goods and by having the opportunity to deal year round a lot of these inflated prices and holding clubs to ransom would go.

Sorry boys but it would have been better to not have signed anyone rather than the likes of Ze who hasn't scored in a year and has been loaned out more times than a blockbuster DVD. Given how poor this window has been for us we should be keeping our powder dry for the summer, where our hopeful promotion will have us as a much more attractive prospect. Iain, Ravel Morrison is a somewhat troubled young Man Utd player who thinks he is better than anyone else.
